Instructions using U.S terminology

Just a few days back I worked on a braided headband using a free pattern at https://crochet-ideas.com/crochet-butterfly-braided-headband/

That headband is about 4” wide, and I wanted a slimmer one, so I thought of tweaking it a bit and making it a single braid.

For this glorious project, you will need to visit the pattern but I will give you ideas of what I’ve done and you go ahead and make a few changes and see what you get

I started with 8 fsc ; turn and work 1 dc in each st for the 1st 4 rows (like the pattern – only working lesser stitches to make it a thinner headband, got it?)

For the 5th row, we are working the 1st loop of the braiding –
so 1 dc in the 1st 3 dc ;
then work 21 ch and work the hdc all the way down to the end ;
attach this braid as shown to the st ;
then pass it into the 2 sts from Row 1 and take it back to the top and attach this braid with a sl-st ;
now (like in the video), skip the next 2 sts and work a dc in the last 3 sts.
Turn and work a dc in the 1st 3 sts ;
2 dc in the space in the centre and 1 dc in the last 3 sts.

SO you see, same pattern – small tweak to make a thinner headband.

I then decided to do the same pattern with two colours – and all you do is change colours every second row.

Hope you had a fun creative day today.  Do join me again for another fun crochet session.  Byeee!

1. Hat circumference = measure around the head just above ears and subtract one inch for a nicely fitted finished hat.
2. Crown width = (this is a flat circular top of the hat) you need to divide hat circumference by 3.14 (pi).
3. Hat height = Head circumference / 10 x 4.

So you need to measure circumference of the head (round head measurement) and keep checking the outer circumference of your work.
There is another trick for measuring circumference (without running your measure tape all around the edge of your circle as you are working).
This works for a cap that you are working top down, from the crown of the head.
It works by dividing your round head measure by pi (3.14).
So say your head measurement is 22, divide 22 by 3.14 = 7.
Remember when calculating diameter, you must account for the stretch of your yarn too.

Fasten off and weave in ends.
Block as per yarn requirement, if needed.
