CUTE FLOWER HAIR CLIPS 2

All this needs is a little bit of yarn, time and a little bit of patience , a pair of tic-tac hair clips and of course your crochet hook.
Come along, let’s work on a tiny cute flower motif that we will make into a hair clip today.  Find out how to make this into a little bit of jewelry too.
This is a great stash and stress buster!

Materials used : Today I’ve used a little Anchor Pearl thread, as well as our lovely Indian kankri / kamal kadai polyester silk yarn with a 1.3 mm crochet hook ; tic-tac hair clip

For Indians : You could use Red ros ; Red rose metallic or   unbranded knitting cotton as well
General yarn info : The kankri yarn is available only in India.
For this project, the finer the yarn, the thinner each petal, and the cuter the end result – so go ahead and use any yarn with a suitable hook to make this project to any size.

Difficulty level : Easy to Intermediate.

Stitches used :
Starting slip knot : This is a neat new way to start your work without a slip knot.

Magic circle : To refresh your skill, please view this easy video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WLuSVyKvoUg

Chainless dc start : Instead of the usual start with ch 2 or ch 3, I’d like to introduce this lovely new way of starting a dc row.  Do take a look at this self-explanatory super video http://www.mooglyblog.com/chainless-starting-double-crochet/
In case you are unhappy with this start, or do not like it, do continue with the usual ch-2 or ch-3 start.  However, all instructions will be given assuming that you are using the chainless dc start.

Picot : (sc, ch 3, sl-st in same sc) all in the same st or ch-sp.
Pl view instructions at http://www.dummies.com/how-to/content/how-to-crochet-a-picot-stitch.html  for a refresher of what a 3-ch picot is.

Instruction information
I’ve made lots of cute little ear rings (also from motifs, that can be converted into hair clips). For a quick one-stop-shop, check out these ideas at https://in.pinterest.com/shyamanivas/17-my-jewellery-made-by-me/

What is a slip stitch : Here is a neat video tutorial at https://youtu.be/weB3QNbA8Iw

Single Crochet : Sc : yo, insert hk into st ; yo (2 lps on hk); yo, draw through both lps.  One sc made.  Check out the video at https://youtu.be/ghACqBpA-3k

First stitch for Single Crochet : This is how I like to start my row of sc. Check out the video at https://youtu.be/6pVYRfsf4_M

Start Round 1 : with a magic circle and 6 sc in that circle.
Pull lightly to close and join to the 1st st with a sl-st.

Double Crochet : dc : yo, insert hk into st ; yo (3 lps on hk);
[yo, draw through 2 lps] twice.  One dc made.
Check out the video at https://youtu.be/xdnjB27zpYo

Chainless start for Double Crochet : I dislike the ch-2 / ch – 3 start, and this is what I do to start my row of dc.
Check out the video at https://youtu.be/wskv3iTjRx0

What is a chain stitch ? Here is an easy video tutorial https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pXx5ukBjKkY

Round 2 :  dc in the 1st sc ;
ch 1, dc in the same 1st sc ;
(ch 1, dc in the next sc ;
ch 1, dc in the same sc)
rep (to) in each sc all around ;
ch 1, join with a sl-st to the 1st st.

In the following round we will be working a round of sc in all the dc and ch-1 sps.
As it is going to be difficult to identify these two separately, I am going to say  ‘sts’ for convenience.  Note here that even the ch-1 sp is being considered a stitch.

Round 3 : sc  in the 1st 3 sts ;
*(sc in the next st ;
ch 10 from the same st ;
sl-st into the same st)
sc in the next 5 sts* ;
rep *to* all around.
Join with a sl-st to the 1st st.

The spokes (ch-10 sps) that we have created are the six petals for our flower.
We will now fill out our flower petals in this last round.
At the tip of each petal, we will work a ch-3 picot, which is (ch 3, sl-st in the 3rd ch from hk).

How to work a picot stitch : Traditionally for a ch-3 picot, you work (ch 3, sl-st in 3rd ch from hook).  For a ch-5 picot, you will do (ch 5, sl-st in 5th ch from hook).
Here’s a great video https://youtu.be/8s3zVaBcn4s

Round 4 : sl-st in the 1st sc  ;
*(9 dc in the ch-10 sp ;
dc + picot in the same ch-10 sp ;
10 dc in the same ch-10 sp)
sk 2 sc, sl-st in the next sc*
rep *to* all around.
Join with a sl-st to the 1st st.
Fasten off and leave a tail for attachment.

This cute motif is ready to be used.
Attach the motif to the top of a tic tac clip and add in a bead in the centre if desired.  One tic tac hair clip ready..
Go ahead and make the pair.. and then make it in all the colors of the rainbow.

Finishing :
To make this into a pair of ear rings :
Attach yarn to the centre of the motif and attach that yarn to the hook of your ear ring.
OR neatly attach it to the centre of an ear ring hoop.
You can also make this into a ‘button’ ear ring – the one that has a press button pushed from the back of the ear – and for that you just attach this motif onto the front flat section of your ear ring holder and sew it down neatly.  It is a large motif so probably suitable this way only for adults.

To make this into a pendant :
Attach a little pendant hook onto the centre of the motif and slip it neatly into a necklace chain.
