11th VOWEL of the HINDI ALPHABET
Today
we will work on the 11th vowel of the Hindi Devnagari script.

General yarn info : The yarn used today is not specific to this pattern.
You can use any yarn with a suitable hook to make this project to any size.
International yarns : Among the international yarns I have used in this thickness, I’d suggest Aunt Lydia Cotton 10, Aunt Lydia Bamboo-Viscose 10, DMC Petra, Sullivans knitting cotton (Australia), Milford Soft, Hilaza Rustica Eclat , Alize cotton yarn and Alize bamboo yarn , Lily Sugar n' Cream cotton yarn
Difficulty level : Intermediate
You
must know how to work the fsc.There is

Half Double Crochet : Hdc :yo, insert hk into st ; yo (3 lps on hk) ;
Row 10 :
ch 1, Work 2 sl-st along the side / post of the 1st dc ;

sc and 1 hdc along the post of the next dc ;

dc along the post of the next dc Turn.
Row 11 :
dc in the 1st st ; hdc in the next st ; sc in the last st.Turn.
Row 12 :
sc in the 1st st ; hdc in the next st ; dc in the last st.Turn.
Rows 13 - 17 : Rep Rows 11 & 12
Row 18 :
sc in all 3 sts.Turn.
Fasten
off and weave in ends.
PART 2 :
Start :
with 12 fsc.Turn.
Row 2 :
sc in the 1st st and in each st till end.Turn.
Row 3 :
sc in all 12 sts ; ch 6.Turn.
Row 4 :
sc in the 2nd ch from hk ; sc in the next 4 ch ;
sc
in the next 3 sts ; 3 fsc.Turn.
Rows5 - 6 : sc in all
11 sts.Turn.
Fasten
off and weave in ends.
PART 3 :
Now
in Part 2 we have worked the “A” ka matra.This has a short side and a long side on top, right? You need to work on
the 5th, 6th and 7th st on the same side
as the small bit.
Row 1 :
Re-attach yarn on the 5th st from top ; sc in that st and the next 2
sts.Turn.
Rows 2 - 3 : sc in all 3 sts.Turn.
Fasten
off and leave a tail for joining.
PART 4 :
Start :
with 12 fsc.Turn.
Row 2 :
sc in the 1st st and in each st till end.Turn.
Row 3 :
sc in all 12 sts ; ch 6.Turn.
Row 4 :
sc in the 2nd ch from hk ; sc in the next 4 ch;
sc
in the next 3 sts.Turn.
Rows5 - 6 : sc in all 8
sts.Turn.
Do
not cut yarn.
PART 5 A:
Lastly
we need to add the two Oh ka matras.
We
will work two matras – one in 5A and the second in 5B.
You
are on the right hand side of the top bar.
Start :
Sl-st in the 1st st ;
dc
+ hdc in the next st ; sc in the next st. Turn.
Row 2 :
sk the 1st st ; sc + hdc in the next st ; dc in the last st.Turn.
Row 3 :
dc + hdc in the 1st st ; sc in the last st. Turn.
Row 4 :
Rep Row 2.
Fasten
off and weave in ends.
PART 5 B :
Keep
your work facing you, so that the matra you just made is to your left.
Re-attach
your yarn on the 4th st from the right hand side of the top
bar.
Start :
sc in the 1st st (where you have attached yarn i.e. 4th
st) ;
sc
in the next 2 sts.
(the
3rd sc will be in the same st as the dc for the earlier matra)
Turn.
Row 2 :
sk the 1st st ; sc + hdc in the next st ; dc in the last st.Turn.
Row 3 :
dc + hdc in the 1st st ; sc in the last st. Turn.
Row 4 :
Rep Row 2.
Fasten
off and weave in ends.
PART 6 : Joining :
a)We need to
join the Part 2 / 3 matra to the Part 1 section.So using a set of pins, first join the matra
to the centre of what you made in Part 1.Then using one of the joining methods, join these two together.
b)Now join the
matra you just made in Part 4.
Block
as needed per yarn instructions.
How did I stiffen my alphabets?
For all my alphabets (whether English or Devnagari), I use Mod Podge (1 MP : 2 water) - so if doing a large batch its table spoons with the proportion or tea spoon depending on quantity needed.
For Indians : Fevicol or Fevicryl Fabric glue in similar proportions works as well.
