O IS FOR …
And today let’s work on our O is for…
We’ve got a whole range of cute little motifs for O- a few Owls (obviously ;) ),
an otter, octopus and a slice of an orange (hah, you thought we did nectarine yesterday, so no O for Orange today huh? ;) ).
Come along, let’s see what we can do with this set.
Do remember to tag me when you make and show off your creation.
Cheers.  Enjoy

Thank you for joining me.

This is a free blog - so do pay it forward for me.  Cheers.

Materials used : Today I’ve used our lovely Oswal 4-ply acrylic yarn with a 3.5 mm crochet hook

Please check the top of this blog for easy video tutorials on all stitches used in today's pattern.  For your convenience there video tutorials through the blog too
Please read through all my notes before you pick up your hook, so you know just where we're heading in our pattern.
In my patterns I work with the principle of stitch count and body measurement.
This means that you need to work the stitch count in pattern, till you get the measurement (length and/or width) that you need for your project.

As I’ve been saying from the start , I love that we can use our creativity and ideas when we work on projects – so I prefer not to restrict you with color usage… so I’ll just indicate color changes .. change colors as you desire.  You could work the whole project in one colour as well and still get a really cute end result.
Create something unique and spread smiles.

Magic circle : To refresh your skill, please view this easy video https://youtu.be/ISC39yOqWro

What is a slip stitch : Here is a neat video tutorial at https://youtu.be/weB3QNbA8Iw

Double Crochet : dc : yo, insert hk into st ; yo (3 lps on hk);
[yo, draw through 2 lps] twice.  One dc made.
Check out the video at https://youtu.be/xdnjB27zpYo

Chainless start for Double Crochet : I dislike the ch-2 / ch – 3 start, and this is what I do to start my row of dc.
Check out the video at https://youtu.be/wskv3iTjRx0

Start Round 1 : (Using Color 1 yarn) :
with a magic circle and work 12 dc in it.
Pull lightly to close
and join with a sl-st to the 1st dc.

Rounds 2 & 3 : 2 dc in the 1st dc and in each dc all around.
Join with a sl-st to the 1st dc.

Round 4 : sc in the 1st dc and in each dc all around.
Join with a sl-st to the 1st sc.

Fasten off Color 1 yarn and attach Color 2 yarn for wings.

How to change colors seamlessly : Here’s an easy video tutorial to show you how to change from the Main color to the Contrast or second color of yarn seamlessly.  View it at https://youtu.be/fRzSBja9jno

Single Crochet : Sc : yo, insert hk into st ; yo (2 lps on hk); yo, draw through both lps.  One sc made.  Check out the video at https://youtu.be/ghACqBpA-3k

First stitch for Single Crochet : This is how I like to start my row of sc. Check out the video at https://youtu.be/6pVYRfsf4_M

Half Double Crochet : Hdc :  yo, insert hk into st ; yo (3 lps on hk) ;
yo, draw through all 3 lps.  One hdc made.
Check out the video at https://youtu.be/sDiELJdB2Dg

Chainless start for Half Double Crochet : I dislike the ch-2 start, and this is what I do to start my row of hdc. Check out the video at https://youtu.be/lWXpl1KdbZ8

Triple Crochet : trc : wrap yarn twice around hook, insert hk into st ; yo (4 lps on hk); [yo, draw through 2 lps] three times.  One trc made.
Check out the video at https://youtu.be/A0y4BbgDTbs

Wing :
Wing Row : sc in the 1st 2 sts ; hdc in the next st ;
dc in the next 2 sts and trc in the last 2 sts ; ch 4 and sl-st in the same last st.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Skip 17 sts and re-attach your yarn. As we’re on the left side of the body, we will mirror our stitches starting with trc and ending with sc.

So ch 4 + trc in the 1st st ; trc in the next st ;
dc in the next 2 sts ; hdc in the next st and sc in the last 2 sts.
Fasten off and weave in ends
Both wings done.

Ear tufts :
For the ear tufts, we’re just going to cut four to five 3” lengths of yarn with each colour per ear.  Hold the bits of yarn together and we will fold in half, thread through the stitch on top of the head, and tie in a knot.  After you knot both ear tufts, snip to neaten.

Which is “the stitch” do you use? Eye ball it is what I’d say, but about the 4th or 5th stitch from the top of the wings should do it.

Eyes :
Start Round 1 : (Using white yarn) :
with a magic circle and work 6 sc in it.
Pull lightly to close and join with a sl-st to the 1st sc.

Round 2 : 2 sc in the 1st sc and in each sc around.
Join with a sl-st to the 1st sc.

Round 3 : 2 sc in the 1st sc ; sc in the next sc ;
(2 sc in the next sc ; sc in the next sc) ;
rep (to) all around.
Join with a sl-st to the 1st sc.

Round 2 : 2 sc in the 1st sc ; sc in the next 2 sc ;
(2 sc in the next sc ; sc in the next 2 sc) ;
rep (to) all around.
Join with a sl-st to the 1st sc.
Fasten off and leave a tail for attachment.
We’ve finished making the whites of the owl eye.

Finishing :
Using the photos as a guide, work in the black of the eye using black yarn and a tiny little beak.
