So I after my initial set of 24 squares (http://shyamanivas.blogspot.com/2015/01/jus-granny-squares.html), and my flower
granny squares, (http://shyamanivas.blogspot.com/2015/02/flower-power-granny-squares.html),
here’s my first collection of absolutely fantastic kiddie squares.
Some of the patterns used did not reach the required dimensions of 9” x 9” – so
once I’d completed the square as per the original design, I just added a few
more rounds following pattern of the last round (or last 2 rounds) till I got
to our desired size specifications.
Materials used : Today I’ve used a combination of colours from Oswal Cashmilon 4-ply acrylic yarns with a 3.5 mm crochet hook ;

This yarn is not specific for this project.
You can use any yarn with a suitable hook to make this project to any size.
As today's project is a donation to Project Chemo Crochet, the squares need to be 9” x 9” - going towards toddler blankets
For Indians : You could use Anchor , Red rose ; Red rose metallic or unbranded knitting cotton as well as Oswal or Vardhaman acrylic yarns
International yarns : Among the international yarns I have used, I’d suggest Aunt Lydia Cotton 10, Aunt Lydia Bamboo-Viscose 10, DMC Petra, Sullivans knitting cotton (Australia), Milford Soft, Hilaza Rustica Eclat , Alize cotton yarn ; Alize bamboo yarn ; Spotlight 4-Seasons Stallion or Marvel acrylic yarns or "I-love-this-cotton" cotton yarn from Hobby Lobby.

combination of our local Indian acrylic yarns (3-ply, 4-ply as well as
Vardhaman Millenium DK ply)

Small note here –
obvious, but let me add it anyway .. The pattern doesn’t say that the palm
leaves and tree base need to be stitched down .. so rather than have them flap
away, I’d say let’s stitch them down.
2. OWL PATTERN

So this is a really really cute little square – much too small for the one we
need here – so obviously I just used a different color (just so the little owl
would stand out on its own) and finished off till we got our 9 x 9”
square. I now think I could’ve used a darker pink.. or maybe a lighter
yellow to show off the owl?? Hmmm

4. MOUSE GRANNY SQUARE
There is a video link (in 3 parts), which is not in English, but
wonderfully self explanatory.. and what a cute end result.. you’ll love it
5. HELLO KITTY GRANNY SQUARE
I used the same pattern as the mouse - just made it a bit larger
and added in whiskers ;) but here's another link given for you which I found
after I'd done my own tweaking and creation.
6. ONE-EYED MONSTER
In this pattern, just
for a twist, I tweaked a bit, and started with a dc round (instead of hdc) and
then on Round 4 (where it says hdc in each st without increase.. the 32 st
round), I once again used dcs – so as there was no increase, the first 3 rounds
already made ‘stood up’ and my monster has a cute 3D finish. Of course
that said, the green makes my cute fella look flowery and not monster-y at
all.. hahaha !!

For the purpose of our
Project Chemo, this one does not fit our specifications, so as usual, continue
with increasing rows till we get our 9” x 9” square.
9. PEACE SIGN GRANNY SQUARE
With the yarn I’ve used,
this pattern works pretty well size-wise – just a small tweak (one round) and
we’ve got the size needed.. so yaay
10. PEACE SIGN GRANNY SQUARE # 2
11. COOL SMILEY FACE GRANNY SQUARE
S0 this pattern is for a
7” x 7” square – so just a few rows after the last row in all dc with (2 dc, ch
2, 2 dc) for the corners, and we’ve got our 9” x 9” square!
12. PIRATE GRANNY SQUARE

In this last pattern sheet, you can get a pattern for a cute
pirate (patch and all), a pirate ship, a parrot as well as skull n cross bones! Yaay to repeatcrafterme !
