L FOR LEAF GRANNY SQUARE
ALPHABET SERIES - IN THE ROUND - 47

Welcome back to Sweet Nothings Crochet free pattern blogs.
If you have been following my blogs, you’ll know that we’re creating some really cute 9” x 9” squares for Project Chemo Crochet that will go to making blankets for toddler battling cancer.
I started with a set of toddler comic characters and then made a few food squares.  This is my final set of squares – my alphabet series.

This is my 8th granny square in my alphabet in the round series.
In case you have just joined me, just check under “labels” on the right hand side of this blog and look under “crochet granny squares” or “crochet blankets” for what we’ve been working on.
Then feel free to follow me here on my blog or via Facebook, Twitter or Pinterest (all links at the end of this blog) so that all future feeds and patterns come right to you.  Cheers.

Thank you for joining me.

In case you have just joined me, know that you can access all of my earlier creations by checking under ‘categories’ on the right hand side of this blog under “Labels”.  Then, for your convenience, follow me here or on Facebook, You Tube, Pinterest, Twitter or Instagram.

Remember that you only print if absolutely essential.  Save paper – Save Our Earth.

Do remember to add my blog URL when you make and show off your creation.

Just copy the link on the search bar above - that's the blog URL.

To purchase this or similar yarn online, click here to buy your yarns online via Amazon.  While you will still pay the same, I may get paid by Amazon as well.

This is a free blog - so do pay it forward for me.  Cheers.

Materials used : Today I’ve used a 4-ply acrylic baby soft yarn with a 4 mm crochet hook ; embroidery needle ; fabric glue to seal ends
This yarn is not specific for this project.
You can use any yarn with a suitable hook to make this project to any size.

For Indians : You could use Anchor , Red ros ; Red rose metallic or  unbranded  knitting cotton as well as Oswal or Vardhaman acrylic yarns

International yarns :  Among the international yarns I have used, I’d suggest Aunt Lydia Cotton 10, Aunt Lydia Bamboo-Viscose 10, DMC Petra, Sullivans knitting cotton (Australia), Milford Soft, Hilaza Rustica Eclat , Alize cotton yarn and Alize bamboo yarn.

So for our L for Leaf granny square, work the first set (for the round) in one colour and then work the second part of the pattern (to create the square) in another colour – or work all in one colour as desired.  This gives you the basic square.  We will then make our tiny leaf motif and put it all together.
The leaf is part of another motif – of a flower and also has the bumble bee pattern – one that I have used before.

For our granny square, I am back to using this fantastic basic square pattern from Rhonda
I have her permission to use the pattern and blog about it.

For today’s leaf motif, visit

Using a tapestry / embroidery needle, I just joined the leaf motif onto the square.

There are loads of crochet patterns for making the alphabets, but I chose to use my needle and embroidery skills to embroider the “L for Leaf”
I hope to make a few more alphabet squares in the same way and I hope you’ll join me to work on them together.

Once you have made as many squares as you want for your blanket, use one of these joining methods for a neat join.

Whipstitch to join : Here’s a quick tutorial on how to join using the whipstitch at https://youtu.be/wZ-9LNzftMA
