S FOR SQUIRREL GRANNY SQUARE
ALPHABET SERIES - IN THE ROUND – 54

Welcome back to Sweet Nothings Crochet free pattern blogs.
If you have been following my blogs, you’ll know that we’re creating some really cute 9” x 9” squares for Project Chemo Crochet that will go to making blankets for toddler battling cancer.
I started with a set of toddler comic characters and then made a few food squares.  This is my final set of squares – my alphabet series.

This is my 14th granny square in my alphabet in the round series.

In case you have just joined me, know that you can access all of my earlier creations by checking under ‘categories’ on the right hand side of this blog under “Labels”.  Then, for your convenience, follow me here or on Facebook, You Tube, Pinterest, Twitter or Instagram.

Thanks for coming along and spreading smiles.

Materials used : Today I’ve used a 4-ply acrylic baby soft yarn with a 4 mm crochet hook ; fabric glue to seal ends

This yarn is not specific for this project.
You can use any yarn with a suitable hook to make this project to any size.

For Indians : You could use Anchor , Red ros ; Red rose metallic or  unbranded  knitting cotton as well as Oswal or Vardhaman acrylic yarns

International yarns :  Among the international yarns I have used, I’d suggest Aunt Lydia Cotton 10, Aunt Lydia Bamboo-Viscose 10, DMC Petra, Sullivans knitting cotton (Australia), Milford Soft, Hilaza Rustica Eclat , Alize cotton yarn and Alize bamboo yarn.

Abbreviations used :

Starting slip knot 1 or the Sloppy Slip knot : This is a neat new way to start your work without a slip knot.  https://youtu.be/YfC7KmGpifs

What is a chain stitch ? Here is an easy video tutorial https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pXx5ukBjKkY

Chainless start for Double Crochet : I dislike the ch-2 / ch – 3 start, and this is what I do to start my row of dc.

So for our S for Squirrel granny square, work the first set (for the round) in one colour and then work the second part of the pattern (to create the square) in another colour – or work all in one colour as desired.  This gives you the basic square.  We will then make our cute lil squirrel motif and put it all together.

For our granny square, I am back to using this fantastic basic square pattern from Rhonda
I have her permission to use the pattern and blog about it.

You get another idea for a granny square with this project – a fantastic 2-in-1.  Enjoy.

Using a tapestry / embroidery needle, I just joined the squirrel motif onto my square.

There are loads of crochet patterns for making the alphabets, but I chose to use my needle and embroidery skills to embroider the “S for Squirrel”
I hope to make a few more alphabet squares in the same way and I hope you’ll join me to work on them together.

Once you have made as many squares as you want for your blanket, use one of these joining methods for a neat join.
