AURORA BOREALIS AFGHAN

I saw this fantastic photograph on the net and instantly it went onto my “to-do” board.  It’s been waiting there a while now, patiently waiting to be in the “DONE” board.. and today let’s get this done!

In case you have just joined me, know that you can access all of my earlier creations by checking under ‘categories’ on the right hand side of this blog under “Labels”.  Then, for your convenience, follow me here or on Facebook, You Tube, Pinterest, Twitter or Instagram.

Chevrons have an advanced skill level.  With this pattern, one works between rows as well, and needs to have done at least one chevron project to understand the technique(s) used.

Materials used : Today I’ve used ~ 1 kg of our local Indian Oswal Cashmilon 4-ply acrylic with a 4 mm crochet hook
For Non-Indians : I’d say you can use any yarn with a suitable hook to make this lovely project.

Skill level : Advanced
Size made : 74” x 90”
This afghan can be made to any size.

What I like to do with all my projects / notes is ensure that one can make it to any size, using any yarn and hook , that will allow you to work with any tension (and no gauge requirement) either.

In that endeavour, I try to work out a stitch count.

Our stitch count is in multiples of 11 + 3

Work the first row in the stitch count repeats for the width you want for your blanket.  Visit the pattern sheet above for the instructions.

What I have done (differently) is work one colour at a time.  The original pattern(s) use a few rows of colour and then a change to get the next pattern section done.  I feel both ideas work – so go ahead and create.

I am sure you enjoyed this!  I know I did.
Please remember to credit the original designer when you share your work, and if you have gained anything from my blog write up, I’d appreciate a thumbs up credit as well
