Before we head off to the project, let’s get an idea of what we’re creating here today.
As always I request you to please go through all my detailed notes before you pick up your hook.  There are ideas galore…. Enjoy!

Today, we’re creating a triangular scarf.
This just means that we start with a few stitches and then keep working, increasing along one side – such that we have one straight side (that goes around neck) and a growing triangle along the other side that is fashionably draped around the chest ;)

The beauty of this pattern is that you can make it as long as you want – just keep working till you finish your skein.. how easy is that, right?

Our shell stitch is {3 dc ; ch 2, sc} all in the same st or ch-2 sp.
When you start a row with a ch 3 and work 2 dc in that row, that first ch-3 is your first dc.
When you start a row with a ch 2, that is your first dc.
So each time you will have a rep of {to}.  Got it?

Start Row 1 : with ch 3.  Turn ;
(2 dc ; ch 2, sc) all in the 3rd ch from hk.  Turn.

Now we’re going to increase along this edge.
To get to the first ‘shell’ that we’ve made on Row 2, you will be turning your work.. just to get into that 1st ch-2 sp and then it’s straight down in all the ch-sps on the row.
You will get the hang of this quick enough.

Row 2 : ch 3 ; (2 dc ; ch 2, sc) all in the 3rd ch from hk ;
[3 dc ; ch 2, sc] in the next ch-2 sp. Turn.

You are now at the other edge of your scarf. This will be your flat edge.
You may want to place a marker to remind you of this.

Row 3 : (ch 2, 2 dc ; ch 2, sc) in the 1st ch-2 sp ;
[3 dc ; ch 2, sc] in the next ch-2 sp ;
rep [to] in the next ch-2 sp. Turn.
The first ch-2 here is your first dc. So your ‘flat edge’ starts with ch 2.

See how we’ve added one shell at the end?
And this is our pattern… a repeat of Rows 2 and 3.
Just to ease you along, let’s work the next two rows together, shall we?

 Row 4 : ch 3 ; (2 dc ; ch 2 ; sc) all in the 3rd ch from hk ;
[3 dc ; ch 2, sc] in the ch-2 sps till end ;
Turn.

Row 5 : (ch 2, 2 dc ; ch 2, sc) in the 1st ch-2 sp ;
[3 dc ; ch 2, sc] in the next ch-2 sp ;
rep [to] in the ch-2 sps till end. Turn.

Easy enough, right?
Continue on, repeating Rows 4 and 5 till you have a gorgeous shelled triangular scarf.

Finishing :
If you have a little yarn left behind, you can make a tassel at each end.  Attach one tassel to the first shell and one to the last shell.
