VIBHINNA TOP

VIBHINNA TOP - a free crochet pattern from Sweet Nothings Crochet
VIBHINNA TOP
Welcome back to Sweet Nothings Crochet free blogs.  Today we’re working a top pattern that has a different front and back.
Vibhinna means varied (in Hindi) - and that's what today's creation is.. a beautiful mix-n-match of ideas that has worked so well together!

Thank you for joining me.

In case you have just joined me, know that you can access all of my earlier creations by checking under ‘categories’ on the right hand side of this blog under “Labels”.  Then, for your convenience, follow me here or on Facebook, You Tube, Pinterest, Twitter or Instagram.

This is a free blog - so do pay it forward for me.  Cheers.

Materials used : Today I’ve used ~ 100 gms of the lovely All Seasons Hobby India acrylic yarn with a 3 mm  crochet hook

For Indians : You could use Anchor , Red rose , 4-ply knitting cotton , or unbranded knitting cotton or White Rose or bamboo knitting cotton , Milk cotton ; Silk yarns or Red Heart / Coats Doli thread with a 1.75 / 1.9 mm mm crochet hook

General yarn info : For this project, the thicker the yarn the faster your work will proceed but the thinner your yarn, the lacier and lighter your work.

International yarnsAmong the international yarns I have used in this thickness, I’d suggest Aunt Lydia Cotton 10, Aunt Lydia Bamboo-Viscose 10, DMC Petra, Sullivans knitting cotton (Australia), Milford Soft, Hilaza Rustica Eclat , Alize cotton yarn and Alize bamboo yarn , Lily Sugar n' Cream cotton yarn

Difficulty level : Easy Skill level.

Foundation double crochet (fdc) : This is a unique way of starting a project directly with a row of double crochet stitches.  This makes your whole project neat and even... In a way that you need to do once, to agree!  If you are familiar
with fsc, you’ll wonder why you never used this start before! Here is an easy video tutorial https://youtu.be/hjNUYVvyU9k
Double Crochet : dc : yo, insert hk into st ; yo (3 lps on hk); [yo, draw through 2 lps] twice.  One dc made.  Check out the video at https://youtu.be/xdnjB27zpYo
Chainless start for Double Crochet : I dislike the ch-2 / ch – 3 start, and this is what I do to start my row of dc.

yo : Yarn Over

Instructions : (Using U.S terminology)
Please note that I start all my rows with a ch 1, turning chain for ease.
Please check the top of this blog for easy video tutorials on all stitches used in today's pattern.
Please read through all my notes before you pick up your hook, so you know just where we're heading in our pattern.
In my patterns I work with the principle of stitch count and body measurement.  This means that you need to work the stitch count in pattern, till you get the measurement (length and/or width) that you need for your project.

This lovely top pattern is totally free and available at http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/drifting-tee

What did I do differently?

I’ve used a yarn that is 3-ply (thickness) with a 3.5 mm hook.
Using the start stitch count given,  I could not get my width requirement.
So rather than using the start number of stitches, I worked off the stitch count (multiples of 12 + 1) for the width of my top, and worked two rectangles - one each for front and back.

However, as I wanted the ‘wow’ factor of the diagonals only along the front, for the back I worked a basic ‘block’ pattern.

The stitch count for out project is in multiples of multiples of 12 + 1

For the front : I've worked the pattern by the link, but using my stitch count.

For the back : I started with the same number of sts for the front , and then I worked this block pattern.

Foundation double crochet (fdc) : This is a unique way of starting a project directly with a row of double crochet stitches.  Here is an easy video tutorial https://youtu.be/hjNUYVvyU9k

Start Row 1 : in fdc with the same number of sts in multiples of 12 + 1.  Turn.

Row 2 : dc in the 1st fdc ;
(ch 2, sk next 2 sts, dc in the next fdc) ;
rep (to) till end.  Turn.

Now in case you have 2 sts at the end after completing the (to) pattern, just work dc in both those sts.
Then you start with 2 dc in the following row.

Row 3 : dc in the 1st dc ;
(ch 2, sk next ch-2 sp, dc in the next dc) ;
rep (to) till end.  Turn.

So IF you had 2 dc at the end of Row 2, you will start with dc in both those sts, but at the end of Row 3, you will end on that last dc.  Easy enough?

Rep Row 3 till you reach the same length that you have for the front.

Now you have 2 rectangles – so go back to the pattern sheet and work the ending as the designer has for the neck / armhole-sleeve.

What I love about this top is that you have a 2-in-1 reversible top - as both front and back have the same neckline and armhole plus ease, you can flip it around have have a new top 🤨.. Fun huh?

Hope you had a fun creative project today.
