BEADED HAIR NET - 6
As I said yesterday, most patterns are a combination of ideas , so once again today, using 7 beads, here’s a new pattern with a slight twist on an earlier one. This pattern works well when you are using a thinner yarn and want a slightly closed finish for the centre portion, but yet want something light and lacy.

Materials used : Today I’ve used (Indian) Anchor knitting cotton yarn with a 2.5 mm crochet hook ; a 4” cardboard round cut-out ; a elastic or rubber band that goes around the pony tail of your child (so say about 2.5 - 3” with a good stretch), 6 or 7 beads for the centre.
General yarn info : Today’s yarn are not specific for this pattern. You could use any yarn with a suitable hook to make this project to any size.
For Indians : You could use Red rose ; Red rose metallic or unbranded knitting cotton as well as Oswal or Vardhaman acrylic yarns

Abbreviations used :
sc : single crochet dc : Double crochet
ch : chain ch-sp : chain space
sp : space rep : Repeat
hk : hook lp (s) : loop(s)
yo : yarn over sl-st : slip stitch
dc 2-tog : Double crochet 2-together
hdc : Half double crochet
Instructions using U.S terminology
Please note that I start all my rounds with a ch 1 turning chain for ease.
Please check the top of this blog for video tutorials of all the stitches used in today’s pattern.
Please read through the full sheet before you pick up your hook n yarn.
For today’s pattern we’re going to have a few general notes.
This hair net can fit almost all bun sizes.
The final size is about 4” and this should work for a tiny to medium sized bun. For an extra large bun, you just need to work a few more rounds.
Instructions (Using US terminology)
I have used 6 beads in one color and 1 bead in contrast color.
You could use all 7 beads in one color as well.
To start : pass your yarn through the 6 beads in similar color and join / knot the yarn together, leaving about 4-5” yarn tail at the end.
Tie a tight knot. Do not cut.
Now pass the yarn through the last contrast bead.
Fit that bead into the centre hole created by the first 6 beads.
Pass the yarn around the beads on the opposite side and then under the beads to tie tightly.
Now you have seven beads all neatly secured.
You can fasten off and cut off that starting yarn.
I suggest you leave a longish bit of yarn and stick this down securely.

Now what we are going to do is work with the long length of yarn and work sts in between the beads.
You have six beads, so there are six spaces and that’s where we start. For convenience, I’m going to call this just a space.
Round 1 : work 3 dc in the 1st sp ;
(ch 1, 3 dc in the next sp) ;
rep (to) all around ;
ch 1 and join to the 1st st.
Round 2 : Increase round :
sl-st into the 1st ch-1 sp ; sc in the same 1st ch-sp ;
*(ch 3, sk next dc, sc in the next dc) ;
rep (to) once ; ch 3, sc in the same dc* ;
rep *to* all around ;
ch 1 + dc and join to the 1st st.
You are now in the centre of that last ch-3 sp and will start next round right here.
Place marker for convenience.
In case you are not happy with this finish, go ahead and work ch-3 and join to the 1st st. Remember though, that you will need to sl-st into the 1st ch-3 sp to start each round.
In our following round we will work a dc 2-tog.

Round 3 : dc 2-tog in the 1st ch-3 sp ;
(dc 2-tog in the next ch-3 sp ;
ch 3, dc 2-tog in the same ch-3 sp) ;
rep (to) all around ;
dc 2-tog in the next / 1st ch-3 sp
ch 1 + dc and join to the 1st st.
In the following round we will work ch-3 sps all around.
Now we will use the ch-3 sp from Round 3, and we will work in the space between the dc 2-tog that are next to one another as well.
Round 4 : sc in the 1st ch-3 sp ;
(ch 3, sc in the sp between the next 2 sts ;
ch 3, sc in the next ch-3 sp) ;
rep (to) all around ;
ch 1 + dc and join to the 1st st.
Round 5 : sc in the 1st ch-3 sp ;
(ch 3, sc in the next ch-3 sp) ;
rep (to) all around ;
ch 1 + dc and join to the 1st st.
Rounds 6 – 9 : Rep Round 5.
Check the diameter of your circle.
You should have about 4 – 4 ½” for a small bun.
If not, then work one round of increase and then one or two rounds without increase. Remember to keep checking diameter.
Now comes the fun part. We need to attach on the elastic.
So hold your elastic against that last round, and work sc all around looping it around your elastic as well as the bun stitches.
2nd Last round : We work 2 sc in each ch-sp all around and join with a sl-st.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Note that when working with elastic, you will need to stretch the elastic a bit and ease your stitches around as you work.
Last Round : (with elastic)

Right then.. here's what we're doing : Hold the elastic near the first st, and work the first stitch into both the elastic and your hair net.
Work 1 sc in each sc all around, stretching the elastic gently as you work all around.
Join to the 1st st.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Finishing :
Remember to turn your hair net over and fasten off that first starting yarn and glue all ends down.
As this is a hair net and the last round needs stretch, remember to glue just the end of that final yarn.
Do not glue too long a length, as it reduces stretch.
