In this last hair net bun cover, I’m giving you one final beautiful idea for a hair bun net cover.

Today we’re working with just one large bead for the centre and a combination of different patterns made by me earlier.

Materials used : Today I’ve used (Indian) Anchor knitting cotton yarn with a 3 mm crochet hook ; a 4” cardboard round cut-out ; a good elastic or rubber band that goes around the pony tail of your child (so say about 2.5 - 3” with a good stretch), one large bead for the centre.

General yarn info : Today’s yarn are not specific for this pattern.

You could use any yarn with a suitable hook to make this project to any size.

For Indians : You could use Red ros e ; Red rose metallic or unbranded knitting cotton as well as Oswal or Vardhaman acrylic yarns

Abbreviations used :

sc : single crochet dc : Double crochet

ch : chain ch-sp : chain space

sp : space rep : Repeat

hk : hook lp (s) : loop(s)

yo : yarn over sl-st : slip stitch

dc 2-tog : Double crochet 2-together

hdc : Half double crochet

Instructions using U.S terminology

Please note that I start all my rounds with a ch 1 turning chain for ease.

Please check the top of this blog for video tutorials of all the stitches used in today’s pattern.

Please read through the full sheet before you pick up your hook n yarn.

For today’s pattern we’re going to have a few general notes.

This hair net can fit almost all bun sizes.

The final size is about 4” and this should work for a tiny to medium sized bun. For an extra large bun, you just need to work a few more rounds.

Instructions

Start with a bead that goes through yarn and hook.

Work a slip knot and then pass yarn and hook through bead ;

yarn over and work a sl-st ;

yarn over, turn bead and sl-st again through other end of bead.

You should now have the bead in the centre with two bits of yarn going through and around both sides of the bead.

We will now work our sc around the two bits of yarn that go around the bead.

Round 1 : work 4 sc in the 1^st sp (around bead) ;

work 4 sc around the next ch-sp

(around other side of bead) ;

join to the 1^st st. (8 sts)

Round 2 : 2 dc in the 1^st sc and in each sc all around ;

join to the 1^st st. (16 sts)

In the next round we will work a dc 2-tog.

Please check the top of this blog for a video tutorial if needed.

So here’s how we will work our dc 2-tog for the pattern today.

We will work the 1^st dc 2-tog as we usually do, but for the next and all following ones, we will work the 1^st leg of the dc 2-tog in the previous st (i.e. the last dc 2-tog) and the 2^nd leg of the dc 2-tog in the next st. This means that with every dc 2-tog you will be working the first part in the last st and the next leg in the next st all around. Got it?

Round 3 : dc 2-tog over the 1^st 2 dc ;

(ch 3, dc 2-tog around the last dc and the next dc) ;

rep (to) all around ;

ch 1 + hdc and join to the 1^st st.

You are now in the centre of the ch-3 sp. Place marker for convenience.

You start right here.

In case this is confusing, please work a ch-3 and join to the 1^st st.

Remember though that with each new round, you will need to sl-st into the centre of the 1^st ch-3 sp.

In that last dc 2-tog you will work the 1^st leg of the st in the last dc 2-tog and the next leg of the st in the next (or 1^st) dc 2-tog to finish.

Round 4 : sc in the 1^st ch-sp ;

(ch 3, sc in the next ch-3 sp) ;

rep (to) all around ;

ch 1 + hdc and join to the 1^st st.

Round 4 : Increase round :

sc in the 1^st ch-3 sp ;

ch 3, sc in the same 1^st ch-3 sp ;

(ch 3, sc in the next ch-3 sp ;

ch 3, sc in the same ch-3 sp) ;

rep (to) all around ;

ch 1 + hdc and join to the 1^st st.

Rounds 5 – 9 : Rep Round 3.

Check the diameter of your circle.

You should have about 4 – 4 ½” for a small bun.

If not, then work one round of increase and then one or two rounds without increase. Remember to keep checking diameter.

Now comes the fun part. We need to attach on the elastic.

So hold your elastic against that last round, and work sc all around looping it around your elastic as well as the bun stitches.

2^nd Last round : We work 2 sc in each ch-sp all around and join with a sl-st.

Fasten off and weave in ends.

Note that when working with elastic, you will need to stretch the elastic a bit and ease your stitches around as you work.

Last Round : (with elastic)

Right, so you hold the elastic near the first st, and work the first stitch into both the elastic and your hair net.

Work 1 sc in each sc all around, stretching the elastic gently as you work all around.

Join to the 1^st st.

Fasten off and weave in ends.

Finishing :

Remember to turn your hair net over and fasten off that first starting yarn and glue all ends down.

As this is a hair net and the last round needs stretch, remember to glue just the end of that final yarn.

Do not glue too long a length, as it reduces stretch.
