Get this awesomely cute monkey with a banana amigurumi, at http://www.crochetyamigurumis.com/mono-amigurumi/
 Hit Google Translate ;)

For my headband, I used the ears from the monkey amigurumi.  So if you are making this as well as the toy, just make 4 ear bits at the same time, and join two together for one side of each ear – just to give it a little thickness and cuteness.
Once done, I attached the monkey ears onto my headband.
Cute ain’t it?

Right then, let’s get our headband base done.
For our headband, we start with a fdc.  I urge you to try this lovely way to start as this is a tiny project and a good place to start this new stitch.
In case you are unable to get the hang of it, don’t hang up on this project – just go with your chain start.

We will also use a ch-3 picot, which is (ch 3, sl-st into the 3rd st from hk).  For a quick “how to work a picot”, check this neat video link to refresh this procedure. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6GGlzZZl3I8

Foundation double crochet (fdc) : This is a unique way of starting a project directly with a row of double crochet stitches.  Here is an easy video tutorial https://youtu.be/hjNUYVvyU9k

Start Row 1 : with 3 fdc. Turn.
If starting with regular chain, work 6 chain, and in Row 1, work your 1st dc in the 4th ch from hk.
Work dc in the last 2 ch and Turn.
Continue now with instructions of Row 2.

Row 2 : ch 1 + picot + ch 1, dc in the 1st fdc and next 2 fdc. Turn.

Row 3 : ch 1 + picot + ch 1, dc in the 1st dc and next 2 dc. Turn.

Continue Row 2 till you have the length needed for your headband.  Length in this case, would be the as long as you’d need it to go around the little kiddo’s head – so circumference of head.

So you see how the cute little picots come out every alternate row – they create a little peaked effect that is just too darling, isn’t it?

Fasten off and weave in ends.

For this, a tweak / idea right off the bat (or top of my head! ;) )

I have decided to make this a little slim, so am going per pattern.
If you want a wider headband, start with 5 fsc, and work 5 dc.  Got it?

As I am making this headband for a little baby girl, I plan on adding a satin headband off the ends of my headband, so that it can be easily tied into a bow.  You could add in an elastic rubber band at the end to give it a slight tightness or if working with acrylic or wool, just join the ends of your headband together. Acrylic & wool have a natural stretch that will give elasticity to your headband.
