Materials used : Today I’ve used our lovely Oswal 4-ply acrylic yarn with a 3.5 mm crochet hook
For Indians : You could use Anchor , Red ros ; Red rose metallic or  unbranded  knitting cotton as well as Vardhaman acrylic yarns

General yarn info : The yarn used today is not specific to this pattern.
You can use any yarn with a suitable hook to make this project to any size.

International yarns :  Among the international yarns I have used in this thickness, I’d suggest Aunt Lydia Cotton 10, Aunt Lydia Bamboo-Viscose 10, DMC Petra, Sullivans knitting cotton (Australia), Milford Soft, Hilaza Rustica Eclat , Alize cotton yarn and Alize bamboo yarn.

Difficulty level : Easy

Stitches used :
Starting slip knot : Here’s how you start with a slip knot.  https://youtu.be/lJcqsVcs8cw

Starting slip knot 1 or the Sloppy Slip knot : This is a neat new way to start your work without a slip knot.  https://youtu.be/YfC7KmGpifs

Abbreviations used :
sc : single crochet         dc : Double crochet
ch : chain                       ch-sp : chain space
sp : space                      rep : Repeat
hk : hook                        lp (s) : loop(s)
yo : yarn over                 sl-st : slip stitch

Instructions using U.S terminology
Please note that I start all my rows with a ch 1, turning chain for ease.
Please check the top of this blog for easy video tutorials on all stitches used in today's pattern.  For your convenience there video tutorials through the blog too
Please read through all my notes before you pick up your hook, so you know just where we're heading in our pattern.
In my patterns I work with the principle of stitch count and body measurement.
This means that you need to work the stitch count in pattern, till you get the measurement (length and/or width) that you need for your project.

Today for our kitty, we’ll make the cute Hello Kitty motif

Part 1 : Kitty face
Foundation Single Crochet : fsc : To refresh your skill on the fsc, please view this video https://youtu.be/mcT85fwh4mA

What is a chain stitch ? Here is an easy video tutorial https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pXx5ukBjKkY

Single Crochet : Sc : yo, insert hk into st ; yo (2 lps on hk); yo, draw through both lps.  One sc made.  Check out the video at https://youtu.be/ghACqBpA-3k

First stitch for Single Crochet : This is how I like to start my row of sc. Check out the video at https://youtu.be/6pVYRfsf4_M

Start Row 1 : with 5 fsc or 6 ch.
If working with fsc, you will start on the 1st fsc ;
if you have started with ch, you will work your 1st sc in the 2nd ch from hk.
I am writing this pattern assuming you are starting with fsc

In the following round we will work to the end of the fsc chain and then turn and work on the underside of the same fsc chain.

Round 2 : sc in the 1st 4 fsc ;
3 sc in the last fsc ;
Turn and work from under the chain ;
work 1 sc in the next 3 fsc ;
2 sc in the last fsc.
Join with a sl-st to the 1st st.

Round 3 : sc in the 1st 5 sts ;
3 sc in the next st ;
sc in the next 5 sts ; 3 sc in the last st.
Join with a sl-st to the 1st st.

Round 4 : sc in the 1st 5 sts ;
2 sc in the next 3 st ;
sc in the next 5 sts ; 2 sc in the last 3 sts.
Join with a sl-st to the 1st st.

Round 5 : sc in the 1st 5 sts ;
(2 sc in the next st ; sc in the next st) ;
rep (to) 2 times ;
sc in the next 4 sts ;
rep (to) 2 times.
Join with a sl-st to the 1st st.

Round 6 : sc in the 1st 5 sts ;
(2 sc in the next st ; sc in the next st) ;
2 sc in the next st ; sc in the next 4 sts ;
rep (to) once ;
2 sc in the next st ; sc in the next 5 sts ;
rep (to) once ;
sc in the next 4 sts.
Join with a sl-st to the 1st st.

We will now work on the two ears.

Single crochet 2-together : sc 2-tog :
Insert hk into st, yo and pull up a lp (2 lps on hk) ; insert hk into next sc, yo and pull up a lp (3 lps on hk); yo and draw through all 3 lps.  One sc 2-tog complete.  Visit this video tutorial at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=whlsMemDHLc

Row 7 : (Ear 1 – Right ear) :
ch 1, Turn sc in the 1st 3 sts ;
Turn and sc in the 1st sc ;
sc 2-tog over the next 2 sc ;
Turn and sc 2-tog over both sc.

Note : Now you can do one of two things – either fasten off and re-attach yarn, or you sl-st down the side of the ear and work on the left ear.
You need to sk 5 sts and work in the next 3 sts for the left ear

Row 7A : (Ear 2 –Left ear) :
sc in the 1st 3 sts ;
Turn and sc in the 1st sc ;
sc 2-tog over the next 2 sc ;
Turn and sc 2-tog over both sc.

Note : Now once again you can do one of two things – either fasten off or if you have sl-st between two ears, you can sl-st all the way around till Ear 1 and then fasten off.

Remember to leave a tail for attachment.

Part 2 : Bow
Now with this bow we will work all our stitches from one stitch.
We will start and work on one side of the bow, turn around and work the second side, all in one continuous movement.

Double Crochet : dc : yo, insert hk into st ; yo (3 lps on hk);
[yo, draw through 2 lps] twice.  One dc made.
Check out the video at https://youtu.be/xdnjB27zpYo

Chainless start for Double Crochet : I dislike the ch-2 / ch – 3 start, and this is what I do to start my row of dc.
Check out the video at https://youtu.be/wskv3iTjRx0

Start Row 1 : with 3 ch.
(Turn ; work 2 dc in the 2nd ch from hk ;
ch 3, sl-st in the same 2nd ch from hk) ;
ch 3, rep (to) once.
Fasten off and leave a long tail.

First run part of this tail around that centre stitch to get the middle of the bow, fasten off again leaving a bit of the tail for attachment.
