DOLL-LIKE TOY FURNITURE - 1
( #Blogaday 03/365 )
This is (I hope) a really cute
Christmas gift for a friend. A little
background to start.. My friend is really house proud and she is constantly
making and creating new things for her home – simple things, which do not
necessarily need to cost an arm and leg – and she like change… and then change
also includes moving furniture around and ‘creating a new look’.
Her dear (suffering?!) husband on
the other hand, doesn’t quite care much for the change.
One day we were just talking about
it, we thought it would be a great (fun, I hope?!) idea to gift her a set of
toy furniture that she could play around with, in the hope that she leaves the
house furniture as it was (hah! But worth a try!)
Thank you for joining me.

Edited to add : The gift reached her well in time for Christmas, and she
absolutely loved it.. so Yaay!

Please note that I start all my rows with a ch 1, turning chain for ease.
Please check the top of this blog for easy video tutorials on all stitches used in today's pattern. For your convenience there video tutorials through the blog too
Please read through all my notes before you pick up your hook, so you know just where we're heading in our pattern.
In my patterns I work with the principle of stitch count and body measurement.
This means that you need to work the stitch count in pattern, till you get the measurement (length and/or width) that you need for your project.
In this series of house / living room furniture,
let’s look at four patterns that I have come up with
1.
NEWSPAPER HOLDER / BASKET
So when I started with this little basket, I thought it could hold newspaper and magazines, OR it could be the dog's basket. So if you feel you're up to making a tiny little dog or cat, hey.. the basket is ready!
Materials Used : I’ve
used our Indian Oswal Cashmilon 4-ply yarn with a 3. mm crochet hook.
Size : approx 1.5”
across x 1” high

In the 1st row, we’ll start with a ch
and then working till the end of that chain, we’ll work under the chain,
thus creating a round.
Single Crochet : Sc : yo, insert hk into st ; yo (2 lps on hk); yo, draw through both lps. One sc made. Check out the video at
https://youtu.be/ghACqBpA-3k
Start Round 1 : with
ch 7 ;
2 sc in the 2nd ch from hk, sc in the next 3 ch ;
4 sc in the
last ch ;
Turn and working under the ch, sc in the next 3 ch ;
2 sc in
the last ch ;
Join with a sl-st to the 1st ch.
Round 2 : 2
sc in the 1st sc ;
(sc in the next sc ; 2 sc in the next sc) ;
rep
(to) all around and join with a sl-st to the 1st st.
We’ll create a small bumpy edge on the following
round by working in the back loops now.
Round 3 : sc-blo in
the 1st sc and in each sc till end.
Join with a sl-st to the 1st st.
Round 4 - 6 : sc
in the 1st sc and in each sc till end.
Join with a sl-st to the 1st st.
In our last round, we’ll work the crab stitch or
reverse single crochet for a lovely ‘lip’ edge on our basket.
Round 7 : Work crab
stitch in the 1st st and in each st all around.
Join with a sl-st to the 1st st.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
2.
ROUND CUSHION
Materials Used : I’ve
used our Indian Oswal Cashmilon 4-ply yarn with a 3. mm crochet hook.
Size : Cushion : ~
1.5” diameter
For our cute little cushions we will work 2
little round pieces, and then join them up together after filling them with
fiber fill
Start Round 1 : with
a magic circle and 6 sc in that circle.
Pull lightly to close, and join with a sl-st to the 1st st.
Round 2 : 2
sc in the 1st sc and in each sc till end.
Join with a sl-st to the 1st st.
Round 3 : 2
sc in the 1st sc ;
*sc in the next sc ; 2 sc in the next sc* ;
rep
*to* all around and join with a sl-st to the 1st st.
Fasten off and weave in ends. (Read NOTE below before
fastening)
NOTE 1 : We
are making two pieces per cushion. Here
is a suggestion.
You can use any joining
method, so for the 1st
round, fasten ends, but for the second round, keep a long tail that you will
use to join Round 1 with the round you’ve just made. Got it?
Great !
NOTE 2 : Once
you’ve finished joining the two rounds 3/4th , start stuffing it and
then continue joining till you’re finished.
Once again, two ideas – the little round cushion looks cute all puffy
and round, but you could also decide to make a little buttoned center
finish. If you so decide, then after
you’ve joined and filled and finished the cushion, pull your embroidery needle
into the centre of the cushion and pull tight, such that the cushion center is
a little tighter. You can then make a
tiny little “button” by working a French knot embroidery stitch in that centre
space.
3.
SQUARE CUSHION
Materials Used : I’ve
used our Indian Oswal Cashmilon 4-ply yarn with a 2.5 mm crochet hook.
Size : Cushion : ~
1” square
For the cute little square cushions we will work
one large rectangular piece, fold it up and then join the sides together, fill
with fiber fill and then add a small edging all around.
Start Row 1 : with
11 fsc. Turn.
Row 2 : sc
in the 1st fsc and in each fsc till end. Turn.
Rows 3 - 5 : sc
in the 1st sc and in each sc till end. Turn.
If you decide to have an edging all around,
change to Contrast Colour at the end of this row. If you do not want a contrast
edging, carry on with the same colour.
Before you work the final row, fold your project
in half.
You now have three open sides
and one folded side.
You will be working
1 sc in each st all around, and 3 sc per corner (for a neat turn). You will work this even on the folded edge.
Just before closing the 4th opening, you will stuff it with fibre
fill.
Row 6 : sc
in the 1st sc and in each sc till end of the 1st side ;
*work 3 sc in the corner st ;
work 1 sc in each st till the next corner* ;
rep*to* all around
and finish with 2 sc in the last sc sp,
joining with a sl-st
to the 1st st. Turn.
4.
GRANNY SQUARE CUSHION
Materials Used : I’ve
used our Indian Oswal Cashmilon 4-ply yarn with a 2.5 mm crochet hook.
Size : Cushion : ~
1” square
IDEAS FOR THE GRANNY SQUARE CUSHION :
For this cushion, I have used the regular
granny square pattern, but used sc instead of hdc or dc etc, so that it
became cute and teensy weensy. Changing
colours just added to the oomph.. so go ahead and create.
