MINI DOILY OR TABLE COASTER
I thought I’d take a break from largish projects and do a quick
set of doilies. These are fun gifts and
can be always used around the home.

This yarn is not specific for this project.
You can use any yarn with a suitable hook to make this project to any size.
International yarns : Among the international yarns I have used, I’d suggest Aunt Lydia Cotton 10, Aunt Lydia Bamboo-Viscose 10, DMC Petra, Sullivans knitting cotton (Australia), Milford Soft, Hilaza Rustica Eclat , Alize cotton yarn and Alize bamboo yarn.

Please read through all my notes before you pick up your hook, so you know just where we're heading in our pattern.
In my patterns I work with the principle of stitch count and body measurement.
This means that you need to work the stitch count in pattern, till you get the measurement (length and/or width) that you need for your project.
Right before we start, here’s a tweak idea. Our pattern here uses a lot of picots, which
are cute and decorative. You could,
however, add in beads in each of those spots, instead of a picot.
If you so decide to do that, then at each point
where it reads dc + picot, you will work in a bead instead, and your
instruction will be dc + bead.
This will apply for each point where it reads sc
+ picot, and you will add in a bead instead of the picot again.
Remember that you will need to add your beads in
before you start.
Single Crochet : Sc : yo, insert hk into st ; yo (2 lps on hk); yo, draw through both lps. One sc made. Check out the video at
https://youtu.be/ghACqBpA-3k
Start Round 1 : with a magic circle and 9 sc in that
circle.
Join with a sl-st to the 1st sc.
Double Crochet : dc : yo, insert hk into st ; yo (3 lps on hk);
[yo, draw through 2 lps] twice. One dc made.
Chainless start for Double Crochet : I dislike the ch-2 / ch – 3 start, and this is what I do to start my row of dc.
Round 2 : 2 dc in
the 1st sc ;
(ch 2, 2 dc in the next sc) ;
rep (to) all around ;
join with a sl-st to the 1st
st.
In our following round, we will use a ch-3
picot, which is (ch 3, sl-st in the 3rd ch from hk).
How to work a picot stitch : Traditionally for a ch-3 picot, you work (ch 3, sl-st in 3rd ch from hook). For a ch-5 picot, you will do (ch 5, sl-st in 5th ch from hook).
Round 3 : sl-st in
the 1st ch-2 sp ;
(dc + picot in the same ch-2 sp) ;
*ch 1, rep (to) 2 times in the same ch-2
sp ;
ch 1, [dc + picot in the next ch-2 sp]* ;
rep *to* all around ;
ch 1, and join with a
sl-st to the 1st st.
Round 4 : dc in the 1st
dc ;
*ch 6, sk next 2 dc and picot, dc in the next dc* ;
rep *to* all around ;
ch 6, and join with a
sl-st to the 1st st.
Round 5 : sl-st into
the 1st ch-6 sp , 9 dc in the same ch-6 sp ;
*sk next dc, 9 dc in the next ch-6 sp* ;
rep *to* all around
and join with a sl-st to the
1st st.
In the following round, we’re going to add
one stitch in the middle of 2 dc.
So
where are we doing it? Right at the start of our rounds, in between the two
sets of 9 dc, we will squeeze in one sc ;)
For our start though, we are on a dc, so we
continue all around and remember to add that in at the end.
Round 6 : sc in the 1st
dc ;
*[skipping next 2 dc, (ch 2 + picot ; ch 3 +
picot) ch 2, sc in the next 3 dc] ;
{skipping next 2 dc, (ch 2 + picot ; ch 3 +
picot) ch 2, sc in the next dc} ;
sc in the space between next 2 dc ; sc in the
next dc* ;
rep *to* all around ;
sc in the last sp between last 2 dc
and join
with a sl-st to the 1st st.
Round 7 : sl-st into
the 1st ch-3 sp , dc in the same ch-3 sp ;
*ch 7, sk next 2 picots and dc in the next ch-3
sp* ;
rep *to* all around and join with a sl-st to the
1st st.
Round 8 : sl-st into
the 1st ch-7 sp , 9 sc in the same ch-7 sp ;
*sk next dc, 9 sc in the next ch-7 sp* ;
rep *to* all around
and join with a sl-st to the
1st st.
Optional tweak : In
our last round, we have 9 dc. We can
work a picot in this round. If you
decide to do so, then work it in the 5th dc (which is the centre of
that 9-dc set).
So if you decide to do that, then here’s the
Optional Round 8A.
Round 8 A :
sl-st into the 1st ch-7 sp , (5 sc
+ picot + 4 sc, all in the same ch-7 sp ;
*sk next dc, rep (to) once in the next ch-7 sp*
;
rep *to* all around
and join with a sl-st to the
1st st.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
You have neatly completed one little doily or
table coaster.
Go ahead and make as many
as you want to complete your set.
Have a fun creative time.
