MINION MOTIF
STATIONERY CLIP MOTIFS 15

I’ve made the minion before – as a stuff toy and then as an appliqué for the Project Chemo Project.  This time, I’ve made another cute little button minion as a stationery topper. Come along and let’s get this cute lil fellow done.

Thank you for joining me.

Materials used : Today I’ve used our lovely Anchor knitting cotton yarn with a 1.3 / 1.7.5 mm crochet hook
General yarn info : The yarn used today is not specific to this pattern.
You can use any yarn with a suitable hook to make this project to any size.

Skill level : Advanced

Stitches used :
Starting slip knot : Here’s how you start with a slip knot.  https://youtu.be/lJcqsVcs8cw

Starting slip knot 1 or the Sloppy Slip knot : This is a neat new way to start your work without a slip knot.  https://youtu.be/YfC7KmGpifs

Abbreviations used :
sc : single crochet            dc : Double crochet
ch : chain                          ch-sp : chain space
sp : space                         rep : Repeat
hk : hook                           lp (s) : loop(s)
yo : yarn over                    sl-st : slip stitch

Instructions using U.S terminology
Please note that I start all my rows with a ch 1, turning chain for ease.
Please check the top of this blog for easy video tutorials on all stitches used in today's pattern.  For your convenience there video tutorials through the blog too
Please read through all my notes before you pick up your hook, so you know just where we're heading in our pattern.
In my patterns I work with the principle of stitch count and body measurement.
This means that you need to work the stitch count in pattern, till you get the measurement (length and/or width) that you need for your project.

Foundation Single Crochet : fsc : To refresh your skill on the fsc, please view this video https://youtu.be/mcT85fwh4mA

Part 1 : Upper body of minion
Start Row 1 : with 6 fsc.  Turn.

In the following row, we’ll work down the fsc chain and then turn at the end and work under the chain to the end.

Single Crochet : Sc : yo, insert hk into st ; yo (2 lps on hk); yo, draw through both lps.  One sc made.  Check out the video at https://youtu.be/ghACqBpA-3k

First stitch for Single Crochet : This is how I like to start my row of sc. Check out the video at https://youtu.be/6pVYRfsf4_M

Row 2 : sc in the 1st fsc and in the next 4 fsc ;
3 sc in the next fsc ; sc in each fsc till end.  Turn.

Row 3 : sc in the 1st 5 sc ; 2 sc in each of the next 3 sc ;
sc in each sc till end.  Turn.

Row 4 : sc in the 1st 6 sc ; 2 sc in the next sc ;
sc in the next 2 sc ; 2 sc in the next sc ; sc in each sc till end.  Turn.

Row 4 : sc in the 1st 6 sc ; 2 sc in the next sc ;
sc in the next 4 sc ; 2 sc in the next sc ; sc in each sc till end.  Turn.
Fasten off yellow and attach your blue yarn.

Part 2 : Lower body of minion
We’ve finished the top yellow body of our minion.  Now we will work on the lower blue pant part of the minion.  So with our blue yarn we will work a row of sc first and then work the pant section.

Row 5 : (using blue yarn) : Nealty work sc in the 8 sts across.  Turn.

Row 6 : sc in the 1st st and in each st across.  Turn.

Single crochet 2-together : sc 2-tog :
Insert hk into st, yo and pull up a lp (2 lps on hk) ; insert hk into next sc, yo and pull up a lp (3 lps on hk); yo and draw through all 3 lps.  One sc 2-tog complete.  Visit this video tutorial at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=whlsMemDHLc

Row 7 : sc 2-tog over the 1st 2 sts ; sc in the next 4 sts ;
sc 2-tog over the last 2 sc.  Turn.

In the following row, we’ll work in the two legs.

Row 8 : sc 2-tog over the 1st 2 sts ;
(ch 4, Turn and sc in the 2nd ch from hk, sc in the next 2 ch ;
sl-st in the same st from where you started the ch = 1st leg made) ;
sl-st in the next 2 sts ;
rep (to) once ;
sc 2-tog over the last 2 sts.
Fasten off and leave a long tail to attach your motif.

Now let’s work the top blue pinafore bit.

Start Row 1 : (with blue yarn) : with 4 fsc.  Turn.

Rows 2 - 3 : sc in the 1st st and in each of the last 2 sts.  Turn.

Part 3 : Pinafore of minion
We’re at the top of the pinafore and now need to work on that little shoulder strap.  For that I’ve worked 16 ch and it goes over the left ‘shoulder’, around the back and over the right ‘shoulder’ to get attached onto the right side of the pinafore

Part 4 : Arms of minion
Now we will work on the 2 arms.

Attach your yellow yarn in one of the sts in the middle of the shoulder strap and the blue lower half of the body.. You just eye-ball it and see which stitch – and then place a marker for both sides to get it even.

ch 4 ; sc in the 2nd ch from hk ; sc in the next 2 ch ;
sl-st in the same st that you started from.
Fasten off and weave in ends.

Re-attach the yarn for the other side and work the 2nd arm too.

Finishing : Using one of the minions as a photo guide, and an embroidery needle, embroider in an eye (or two), the ubiquitous pair of glasses, mouth and hair on top of the head if you like

Have fun – create something unique.
