Materials used : Today I’ve used local unbranded knitting cotton yarn with a 3.5 mm crochet hook ; fabric glue to seal ends ; stitch markers ; embroidery needle ; sewing needle ; Mod Podge to stiffen motif
For Indians : You could use Anchor , Red rose ; 4-ply knitting cotton , or unbranded knitting cotton or White Rose or bamboo knitting cotton , Milk cotton ; Silk yarns as well
General yarn info : The yarn used today is not specific to this pattern.
You can use any yarn with a suitable hook to make this project to any size.
International yarns : Among the international yarns I have used in this thickness, I’d suggest Aunt Lydia Cotton 10, Aunt Lydia Bamboo-Viscose 10, DMC Petra, Sullivans knitting cotton (Australia), Milford Soft, Hilaza Rustica Eclat , Alize cotton yarn and Alize bamboo yarn , Lily Sugar n' Cream cotton yarn
Difficulty level : Intermediate
You must know how to work the fsc.

Instruction information
Please note that I start all rows with a ch 1 turning chain
for ease.
Please
also check the top of this blog for neat video tutorials of all stitches used
in today’s pattern sheet.
Part 1 :
We
start with the vowel / alphabet and then work the ‘line’ on the top.
Start :
with 3 fsc. Turn.
Row 1 :
sc all 3 sts. Turn.
Row 2 :
dc in the 1st st ; hdc in the next st ; sc in the last st. Turn.
Row 3 :
sc in the 1st st ; hdc in the next st ; dc in the last st. Turn.
Rows 4 - 9 : Rep Rows 2 and 3.
Rows 10 - 11 : sc in all 3 sts. Turn.
Row 12 :
sc in the 1st st ; hdc in the next st ; dc in the last st. Turn.
Row 13 :
dc in the 1st st ; hdc in the next st ; sc in the last st. Turn.
Rows 14 - 21 : Rep Rows 1 2 and 13.
Row 22 :
sc in all 3 sts. Turn.
We
now need to work that last little tail bit for our “E”.
So
we will sl-st down the post of the last 2 sc and work in the post of the next 3
sts along the lower edge of our “E”.
Row 23 :
2 sl-st along the posts of the 1st 3 sts ;
3
sc in the post of the next 3 st. Turn.
Row 24 :
sc in the 1st st ; hdc in the next st ; dc in the last st. Turn.
Row 25 :
dc in the 1st st ; hdc in the next st ; sc in the last st. Turn.
Row 26 :
sc in the 1st st ; hdc in the next st ; dc in the last st.
Fasten
off and weave in ends.
We
have finished the lower part of our “E” Hindi alphabet.
We
will now work on the top part and for that we will work along the top curve of
the S-shape of the alphabet.
Part 2 :
Re-attach
your yarn to the top right hand st of the S-shape.
Row 1 :
working back over the post of the stitches on the top of the “S” ;
sc
in the post of the 1st st ; 2 sc along the post of the next st ; ch
7. Turn.
Row 2 :
sc in the 2nd ch from hk ;
sc
in the next 5 ch ; sc in the next 3 sts ; 1 fsc. Turn.
Rows 3 - 4 : sc in all 10 sts. Turn.
Fasten
off and weave in ends.
Block as needed per yarn instructions.

How did I stiffen my alphabets?
For all my alphabets (whether English or Devnagari), I use Mod Podge (1 MP : 2 water) - so if doing a large batch its table spoons with the proportion or tea spoon depending on quantity needed.
For Indians : Fevicol MR or Fevicryl Fabric glue in similar proportions works as well.
