Materials used : Today I’ve used our lovely Oswal 4-ply acrylic yarn with a 3.5 mm crochet hook
For Indians : You could use Anchor , Red ros ; Red rose metallic or  unbranded  knitting cotton as well as Vardhaman acrylic yarns

General yarn info : The yarn used today is not specific to this pattern.
You can use any yarn with a suitable hook to make this project to any size.
International yarns :  Among the international yarns I have used in this thickness, I’d suggest Aunt Lydia Cotton 10, Aunt Lydia Bamboo-Viscose 10, DMC Petra, Sullivans knitting cotton (Australia), Milford Soft, Hilaza Rustica Eclat , Alize cotton yarn and Alize bamboo yarn.

Stitches used :
Starting slip knot : Here’s how you start with a slip knot.  https://youtu.be/lJcqsVcs8cw

Starting slip knot 1 or the Sloppy Slip knot : This is a neat new way to start your work without a slip knot.  https://youtu.be/YfC7KmGpifs

Abbreviations used :
sc : single crochet             dc : Double crochet
ch : chain                           ch-sp : chain space
sp : space                          rep : Repeat
hk : hook                            lp (s) : loop(s)
yo : yarn over                    sl-st : slip stitch

Instructions using U.S terminology
Please note that I start all my rows with a ch 1, turning chain for ease.
Please check the top of this blog for easy video tutorials on all stitches used in today's pattern.  For your convenience there video tutorials through the blog too
Please read through all my notes before you pick up your hook, so you know just where we're heading in our pattern.
In my patterns I work with the principle of stitch count and body measurement.
This means that you need to work the stitch count in pattern, till you get the measurement (length and/or width) that you need for your project.

1)      G is for GIRL

Magic circle : To refresh your skill, please view this easy video https://youtu.be/ISC39yOqWro

What is a slip stitch : Here is a neat video tutorial at https://youtu.be/weB3QNbA8Iw

Start Round 1 : (Using face colour yarn) :
with a magic circle and work 12 dc in it.
Join with a sl-st to the 1st st.

Double Crochet : dc : yo, insert hk into st ; yo (3 lps on hk);
[yo, draw through 2 lps] twice.  One dc made.
Check out the video at https://youtu.be/xdnjB27zpYo

Chainless start for Double Crochet : I dislike the ch-2 / ch – 3 start, and this is what I do to start my row of dc.
Check out the video at https://youtu.be/wskv3iTjRx0

Round 2 : 2 dc in the 1st dc and in each dc till end.
Join with a sl-st to the 1st st.

Round 3 : dc in the 1st dc ;
2 dc in the next dc ;
(dc in the next dc ; 2 dc in the next dc) ;
rep (to) till the end.
Join with a sl-st to the 1st st.

Round 4 : dc in the 1st 2 dc ;
2 dc in the next dc ;
(dc in the next 2 dc ; 2 dc in the next dc) ;
rep (to) till the end.
Join with a sl-st to the 1st st.

Face finished. Fasten off and weave in ends.

Hair
Start Round 1 : (Using hair colour yarn) :
with a magic circle and work 9 dc in it.
Do not join but leave in a semi circle.  Turn.

Row 2 : 2 dc in the 1st dc ;
3 dc in the next dc ;
(2 dc in the next dc ; 3 dc in the next dc) ;
rep (to) till end.  Turn.

Chainless start for Triple / Treble Crochet : I dislike the ch-2 / ch – 3 start, and this is what I do to start my row of trc.
Check out the video at https://youtu.be/f42MO0cGYC0

Triple Crochet : trc : wrap yarn twice around hook, insert hk into st ; yo (4 lps on hk); [yo, draw through 2 lps] three times.  One trc made.
Check out the video at https://youtu.be/A0y4BbgDTbs

Half Double Crochet : Hdc :  yo, insert hk into st ; yo (3 lps on hk) ;
yo, draw through all 3 lps.  One hdc made.
Check out the video at https://youtu.be/sDiELJdB2Dg

Chainless start for Half Double Crochet : I dislike the ch-2 start, and this is what I do to start my row of hdc. Check out the video at https://youtu.be/lWXpl1KdbZ8

Row 3 : trc in the 1st 5 sts ;
1 dc + 1 hdc in the next st ;
1 hdc + 1 sc in the next st ; sc in the next 6 sts ;
(We will now continue down the flat edge of the semicircle to neaten it up.
Work 3 sc on each trc horizontal bar, and 2 sc in each dc horizontal bar for an approximate of 15 sc)

Now you have reached one end of the semicircle and we need to attach this black hair (cap) to the face.  You can do this in two ways :
a)   You can fasten off and attach the hair to the head using an embroidery needle ; or
b)   You can hold the black hair edge and the face edge together and work an sc through both holding it together.

Once you joined the hair to the head, we will work on the curls for the hair.

Hair curls
For the curly hair we will be working one strand at a time.. so basically we will work a length of chain and then work 2 hdc in each ch till the end to make one curly tendril of hair.

Re-attach your hair colour yarn at the ‘corner ear point’ and work 13 ch.  Turn and work 2 hdc in the 2nd ch from hk and 2 hdc in each ch till end.  Work in a sl-st at the point that you started this hair tendril from.  You finished one tendril.
Now work as many curly tendrils as you’d like for both sides of your head.
When you are done, attach a satin ribbon bow to hold the hair on both sides of the head.

And you have one cute curly haired doll face done
