ALPHABET KEY CHAINS
I’ve
worked on the full English alphabet both upper and lower case and made motifs
to attach onto baby blankets, and I’ve made alphabet key chains before too.

Materials used : Today
I’ve used (Indian) Anchor knitting cotton with a 1.9 mm crochet hook ; one keychain ring per alphabet ; fabric glue to seal ends ; stitch markers ; embroidery needle ; sewing needle ; Mod Podge to stiffen motif
For Indians : You could use Anchor , Red rose ; 4-ply knitting cotton , or unbranded knitting cotton or White Rose or bamboo knitting cotton , Milk cotton ; Silk yarns as well
General yarn info : The yarn used today is not specific to this pattern.
You can use any yarn with a suitable hook to make this project to any size.
International yarns : Among the international yarns I have used in this thickness, I’d suggest Aunt Lydia Cotton 10, Aunt Lydia Bamboo-Viscose 10, DMC Petra, Sullivans knitting cotton (Australia), Milford Soft, Hilaza Rustica Eclat , Alize cotton yarn and Alize bamboo yarn , Lily Sugar n' Cream cotton yarn

How
did I make this into an alphabet key chain ?
There
are two ways to work this depending on your skill level
The
easier way is to work the alphabet motif pattern as given and then using an
embroidery needle and the same yarn, attach the motif to the key chain ring.
The
slightly complicated way is to attach the alphabet to the key chain ring as you
are working on it. The complication here
is that you need to know how the alphabet is being created so you can attach it
as you go.
For my letter “A”, I worked the alphabet first and then attached it to the key chain ring. In my earlier alphabet key chain, I’d said that adding beads would make a big difference – and it does
For
my first (red) alphabet A, I just added some beads and a tiny readymade pompom.
For
my blue alphabet A, I was requested to make it two coloured – so I first made
the alphabet in light blue per pattern, and then worked a row of sc all around
the edges with the darker blue. Just
that small change and the alphabet looks so much more different, doesn’t it?
I
then added a few flowers and topped the centres with beads.
For the flowers I worked a really simple one.
Start Round 1 : with a magic circle and 6 sc in it.
Join with a sl-st to the 1st st.
Round 2 :
(sc + ch 2 + 2 dc + ch 2 + sl-st) all in the 1st sc ;
rep
(to) all around
and join with a sl-st to the 1st st.
Do
not fasten off.
Work a small chain that
you can join to the key chain ring.
Then
fasten off and weave in ends.
Add a small bead onto the center if desired.
Block as per yarn requirements.

How did I stiffen my alphabets?
For all my alphabets (whether English or Devnagari), I use Mod Podge (1 MP : 2 water) - so if doing a large batch its table spoons with the proportion or tea spoon depending on quantity needed.
For Indians : Fevicol or Fevicryl Fabric glue in similar proportions works as well.
