Materials used : Just
a little bit of Oswal Cashmilon acrylic 4-ply yarn, with a 4 mm crochet hook.
You can work in knitting cotton too – I just had
the coolest little bits of acrylic handy so am using up my little bits of stash.
You can make this project with any yarn
and a hook that suits it.
Skill level : Easy
Stitches used :
Starting slip knot : Here’s how
you start with a slip knot. https://youtu.be/lJcqsVcs8cw

This
is a neat new way to start your work without a slip knot. https://youtu.be/YfC7KmGpifs

Instructions using U.S terminology
Please note that I start all my rows with a ch 1, turning chain for ease.
Please check the top of this blog for easy video tutorials on all stitches used in today's pattern. For your convenience there video tutorials through the blog too
Please read through all my notes before you pick up your hook, so you know just where we're heading in our pattern.
In my patterns I work with the principle of stitch count and body measurement.
This means that you need to work the stitch count in pattern, till you get the measurement (length and/or width) that you need for your project.
What do you
need to do before you start?
1.
Measure
your bottle(s) and figure out what approx length and width you’d like.
2. You also need to measure the ‘neck’ of your
bottle and ensure that you start with sufficient stitches to go around the
neck.
I work a ch 1 as a turning chain at the start of each row for ease.
Please check the top of this blog for loads of video tutorials on how I work a chain-less start for all my stitches.
What is a chain stitch ? Here is an easy video tutorial https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pXx5ukBjKkY
What is a slip stitch : Here is a neat video tutorial at https://youtu.be/weB3QNbA8Iw
Start : (Using white) : with about 18 ch .
Join with a sl-st to the 1st st.
Join with a sl-st to the 1st st.
(If you have a
standard dispenser bottle, this should be about right.
In case it’s too tight, increase the number
of stitches.
It does not affect the
pattern. We use chain as against magic
circle as we want a fixed opening)
Half Double Crochet : Hdc : yo, insert hk into st ; yo (3 lps on
hk) ;
yo,
draw through all 3 lps. One hdc
made.
Check
out the video at https://youtu.be/sDiELJdB2Dg
Chainless start for Half Double Crochet :
I
dislike the ch-2 start, and this is what I do to start my row of hdc. Check out
the video at https://youtu.be/lWXpl1KdbZ8
Round 1 : (Using white) :
2 hdc in the 1st ch and in
each ch all around.
Join with a
sl-st to the 1st st. (36).
In case you
find it tedious to go into the chain, work your stitches into the loop.
Fasten off
white. Attach red yarn.
Now let’s make
this a little easier for ourselves.
Place markers.
Place a marker
in the the 9th, 18th and 27th st.
Double Crochet : dc : yo, insert hk into st ; yo (3 lps on hk);
[yo, draw through 2 lps] twice. One dc made.

Round 2 : (Using red) :
2 dc in 1st st ;
(dc in each st
till the marker ;
2 dc in the marked st) ;
rep (to) all
around
and join with a sl-st to the 1st st.
From now on, we
will use red yarn all the way to the end.
Move markers.
Move markers.
In this row, we
will work 2 dc in each of the 2 sts we increased last time.
So place your marker in the 1st of the 2 sts.
So place your marker in the 1st of the 2 sts.
Round 3 : 2 dc in 1st 2 sts ;
(dc in each st
till the marker ;
2 dc in the marked st and the next st) ;
2 dc in the marked st and the next st) ;
rep (to) all
around
and join with a sl-st to the 1st st.
Round 4 : dc in 1st st
and in each st all around.
Join with a
sl-st to the 1st st.
In the
following round, we will be working for only the chest portion and then
sectioning out a few stitches that will make the armhole opening.
We will also
start using our Shell stitch from here on.
The Shell st is (2 dc ; ch 2, 2 dc) all in the same st or ch-sp.
Round 5 : Shell st in 1st dc ;
(sk next dc ;
Shell st in the next dc) ;
rep (to) once ;
rep (to) once ;
sk next 13 sts
; rep (to) 6 times ;
sk next 13 sts,
rep (to) till end.
Join with a
sl-st to the 1st st.
From now on,
you will work the Shell st in the ch-sp of the earlier Shell st.
We will work in rounds all through.
Round 6 : Shell st in 1st Shell st and in each Shell st
till end.
Join with a
sl-st to the 1st st.
Rep Round 6
till you are one row/round away from the edge.
We will work a border round to finish the cute red dress off.
I have opted to work in white for the border.
Fasten off red yarn. Attach white yarn.
Border Round : (Using white yarn) :
sl-st into the 1st ch-sp ;
sl-st into the 1st ch-sp ;
6 dc in the
same ch-sp ;
(sc in the sp
between 2 Shell sts ;
6 dc in the next Shell st) ;
rep (to) all
around.
Join with a
sl-st to the 1st st.
Fasten off and
weave in all ends.
Armhole finishing : Re-attach white yarn to the armhole.
Work
hdc evenly all around the armholes.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Apron : The apron is
made in all white yarn.
We will work
this separately and then attach one part onto the centre front of the
dress. The ties of the apron will go
around your bottle and be tied around the back.
Cute huh?
Start Row 1 :
with 100 fsc.
Turn and sl-st into the 1st 39 fsc.
Turn and sl-st into the 1st 39 fsc.
Now you can opt to either sl-st or you can cut
off the yarn at the end and re-attach on the 40th st.
We will only work on the centre bit of this long
100 fsc tape.
Let's continue with the first row
Foundation Single Crochet : fsc : To refresh your skill on the fsc, please view this video https://youtu.be/mcT85fwh4mA
Row 1 continues : hdc
in the next fsc ;
(ch 1, sk next fsc, hdc in the next fsc) ;
(ch 1, sk next fsc, hdc in the next fsc) ;
rep (to) 8
times. Turn.
Leave remaining stitches unworked.
Leave remaining stitches unworked.
We will use
the same Shell st as we have used before.
Row 2 : dc in the 1st
hdc ;
Shell st in the next ch-1 sp ;
(sk next ch-1 sp, Shell st in the next ch-1 sp)
;
rep (to) 3
times ;
dc in the last hdc. Turn.
Once again, we
will work our Shell st in the ch-sp of the earlier Shell st.
Rows 3 - 5 :
dc in the 1st dc ;
(Shell st in the next Shell st) ;
rep (to) 4
times ;
dc in the last dc. Turn.
Fasten off
and weave in ends.
Apron
attachment :
Place the
apron in the centre of the dress front.
Pin down and then neatly attach just the front part.
Leave the ties free to tie around the back.
