Please read through all my notes before you pick up your hook, so you know just where we're heading in our pattern.
In my patterns I work with the principle of stitch count and body measurement.
This means that you need to work the stitch count in pattern, till you get the measurement (length and/or width) that you need for your project.

Years back when I started crocheting, I made a Christmas doily with a similar criss cross pattern.  I hunted but could not find that pattern, but here’s what I recall from memory.
Now remember that we are working outside the hoop ear ring, and then hanging a bead off it - so calculate that length off your ear before you jump into the pattern!

Once again do note that these are just ideas and you can work with any yarn (and suitable hook) using any sized hoop to make this project.

You can start with any number of stitches in multiples of 3

For the top of the ear ring – attach your beads and bling (if using any) onto the ear ring hook and attach that to your hoop first.
This way when you work the sc of Round 1, you can hide any ungainly ties that come off your beads etc.

Start Round 1 :  Work as many sc as you like around the hoop in multiples of 3.
Join with a sl-st to the 1st st

Round 2 : sc in the 1st st ;
(ch 5, sk next 2 sc, sc in the next sc) ;
rep (to) all around ;
Join with a sl-st to the 1st st

You now have one set of ch-5 spaces / loops and you have 2 sc in between.
We are now going to work a second set of ch-5 sps using the 2nd sc (i.e the one closest to the end).  It does not really matter which sc you use as long as you use the same sc all through.
What do I mean? .. so if we number them sc #1 and sc #2, if you start working the second round of loops using sc #1 then you will work the end of the loop in the sc # 1 all through.
Does this make sense?

Take a look at the diagrams below and try to follow the colours to see where the stitches go.

So lets’ make the second round of ch-5 sps.  Now to get to the stitch, you will need to go over and under the ch-5 sp you have just made in Round 2.  Remember that as we are ‘interweaving or criss crossing the spaces’, ensure that you have the ch-5 sp of Round 2 inside the one we are making now.

Round 3 : sl-st in the 1st sc ;
(ch 5, sk next sc and sc in the next sc from the front) ;
[ch 5, sk next sc and sc in the next sc from the back] ;
*rep (to) once ; rep [to] once* ;
rep *to* all around ;
Join with a sl-st to the 1st st.

Round 3 : Now all we need to do is fill in sc into the ch-5 sps made – but we will do them one round at a time.. so first you will work on the ch-5 sps made in Round 2 and then those in Round 3.  Start with a sl-st into the first ch-5 sp and work 8 sc in the space, and then sl-st into the next to work 8 sc there too.  Do this all around till you have finished all the ch-5 sps made between Rounds 2 & 3.

Fasten off and weave in ends.
