BEADED
EAR RING 10
I’ve
been on a mad ear ring spree.. just making motifs and stringing them into ear
ring hooks. This ear ring is a simple
pattern – just with a lot of bling.
This
blog has two patterns.. similar pattern.. different end results.

Materials used : Today I’ve used our lovely Indian Anchor pearl yarn with a 1.3 mm crochet hook ; ready-made ear ring hooks (one pair minimum) ; beads ; connector rings ; glue to seal ends.General yarn info : The yarn used today is not specific to this pattern.
You can use any yarn with a suitable hook to make this project to any size.
International yarns : Among the international yarns I have used in this thickness, I’d suggest Aunt Lydia Cotton 10, Aunt Lydia Bamboo-Viscose 10, DMC Petra, Sullivans knitting cotton (Australia), Milford Soft, Hilaza Rustica Eclat , Alize cotton yarn and Alize bamboo yarn. and beads.
Difficulty level : Intermediate
Abbreviations used : (Using U.S terminology)
lp(s) : Loop(s) hk : Hook
dc : Double crochet sp : Space
sl-st : Slip stitch ch : Chain
st(s) : Stitch(es)
yo : Yarn Over
Single Crochet : Sc : yo, insert hk into st ; yo (2 lps on hk); yo, draw through both lps. One sc made. Check out the video at
https://youtu.be/ghACqBpA-3k
Double Crochet : dc : yo, insert hk into st ; yo (3 lps on hk);
[yo, draw through 2 lps] twice. One dc made.
Chainless start for Double Crochet : I dislike the ch-2 / ch – 3 start, and this is what I do to start my row of dc.
Instructions using U.S terminology
Please note that I start all my rows with a ch 1, turning chain for ease.
Please check the top of this blog for easy video tutorials on all stitches used in today's pattern. For your convenience there video tutorials through the blog too
Please read through all my notes before you pick up your hook, so you know just where we're heading in our pattern.
In my patterns I work with the principle of stitch count and body measurement.
This means that you need to work the stitch count in pattern, till you get the measurement (length and/or width) that you need for your project.
My patterns have been inspired by this beautiful creation.. Just see how a different choice of yarn n beads can make a different end product - I've worked this pattern using the really fine embroidery floss-like Pearl yarn and see how delicate mine looks and how gorgeous the original is too :)
PATTERN 1
This
is the first pattern and is relatively simple.
You can keep it as simple as you wish, be reducing the number of beads,
and therefore reducing the fussiness of work – but then of course, it also
reduces the pizzazz of your product.
Decisions..
decisions.. ;)
Now
you can start Round 1 with just the dc in it, or you can choose to start by
adding a largish bead. To add bead, pass
yarn through the bead and tie up neatly.
Then pass the hook through the yarn that goes around bead and work the
first round of stitches around that.
Depending
on the yarn thickness, you end up with a different product every time.. how
cool is that, right?
So
I made both the straight start with dc and the one with the bead in
centre. I worked sc around the beads,
just to get a slightly closed look
Start Round 1 : with a magic circle and 18 dc in it.
Join
with a sl-st to the 1st st.
In
the following round, we just work all round adding our beads.
So
either you string them in before you start or string them along as you work.
Check
the top of this blog for useful links on how to work with beads.
You
can work a plain pattern, without adding the beads, and then go back with a
fine needle and thread adding the beads after you are done as well.
Round 2 :
sl-st into the 1st dc ; (sc + bead + sl-st in the same st) ;
rep
(to) all around.
Join
with a sl-st to the 1st st.
In
the following round, we will work a hdc into the dc from Round 1. This will hold and show your bead off
properly.
Round 3 :
hdc into the 1st dc of Round 1 ;
(ch
1, sk bead, hdc into the next dc from Round 1) ;
rep
(to) all around.
Join
with a sl-st to the 1st st.
Round 4 :
sl-st into the 1st ch-1 sp , 2 sc in the same ch-1 sp ;
(sk
next hdc, 2 sc in the next ch-1 sp)
rep
(to) all around.
Join
with a sl-st to the 1st st.
In
our final round, we will once again attach beads for half the round.
So
let’s place markers if needed. We will
be skipping the first 7 beads and the last 7 beads. We will work beads into all
the other 4 beaded stitches from Round 2.
You
can start by attaching the ear ring hook right now, or you can come back to
attach it at the end.
Round 4 :
sl-st past the 1st 14 sts , (sc + bead in the next st ; sc in the
next st) ; rep to) 3 times ; sl-st all the way to the 1st st and
join with a sl-st to the 1st st.
Attach
the ear ring hook and ta da! you’re done with one beautiful beaded ear ring.
Fasten
off and weave in ends.
PATTERN 2
This
pattern is similar but has more beads and is a little more challenging.. I’d
say as it has beads, it calls for Advanced skills
So
with this pattern, we start with a bead in the centre. For this you will need to pass your hook
through the bead, then loop in your yarn, pull it through and tie up at the
other end. You will have a bead, and a
yarn around it.. and we will work our first round in that yarn that goes around
the bead. Got it?
Start Round 1 : with a magic circle and 9 sc in it.
Join
with a sl-st to the 1st st.
Round 2 :
2 sc in the 1st sc and in each sc all around.
Join
with a sl-st to the 1st st.
In
the following round we will add our beads. Please take a look at the links on
top of this blog for a ‘how to’
Round 3 :
hdc in the 1st sc ;
(ch
1, sk next sc, hdc + add bead in next sc) ;
rep
(to) all around.
Join
with a sl-st to the 1st st.
Round 4 :
sc in the 1st hdc ;
(2
sc in the ch-1 sp ; sc in the next hdc ) ;
rep
(to) all around.
Join
with a sl-st to the 1st st.
Round 5 :
2 sc in the 1st st ; sc in the next 2 st
(2
sc in the st ; sc in the next 2 st) ;
rep
(to) all around.
Join
with a sl-st to the 1st st. (36 sts)
Once
again, we will add beads in our following round.
Round 6 :
hdc in the 1st st ;
(ch
1, sk next st, hdc + add bead in next st ; hdc in the next 2 sts) ;
rep
(to) all around.
Join
with a sl-st to the 1st st.
At
this point your motif should be ready to fit inside the ear ring hoop, so let’s
go ahead and attach the hoop now.
While
working this round, loop stitches around the hoop and attach it as you work the
pattern.
I
have attached with every stitch so as to reduce the hoop showing through.
How
do you do this ? well, the links above should help – but basically slip your
hook into the stitch and ear ring hoop and then draw the yarn through both
stitch and hoop to finish. It’s a little
tricky for the first few stitches, but you’ll get the hang pretty quickly.
Round 7 :
sc in the 1st hdc ;
(2
sc in the ch-1 sp ; sc in the next 3 hdc ) ;
rep
(to) all around.
Join
with a sl-st to the 1st st. (45 sts)
You
can finish at this point – or do come along for the last border round.
Round 8 :
sc in the 1st sc ; sk next sc , 5 dc in the next sc ;
(sk
next sc ; sc in the next 2 sc ; sk next sc , 5 dc in the next sc) ;
rep
(to) all around and join with a sl-st to the 1st st.
For
a further little cuteness, work a ch-3 picot in the 3rd dc of the
5-dc set.
The
ch-3 picot is (ch 3, sl-st in the 3rd ch from hk).
Isn’t
this just the best pattern blog.. sooooo many ideas.. such creative ideas.. go
