FLOWER BELT 2

I found this photograph with a chart, but no instructions.  These are my notes as I work on my own project.

For your belt, you may decide to use beads.  In case you do, go ahead and add them to your yarn now.
I will not be telling you where to add the beads or when to change colours – that’s your creativity.
The simplest and most effective space to use beads would be where we add in the picot, but you can use them anywhere else too.
I request you to check the links at the top of this blog on how to add beads & work with beads.

Before we head off to the pattern, let’s visualise it.  We work this belt in one continuous movement.  We will start one half of the pattern comprising of two petals (of that four petal flower in the centre) and work all the way till we have the length of our belt done.  Once we have finished the pattern all the way to the end, completing one length on one side, we will turn around at the end and come back to finish the other half of the belt.
Note that this means you cannot add to the sides of the belt (to increase length I mean), so ensure that you get the length right ......
 else it will be rip rip rip time for you :-/

Our stitch count is in multiples of 9.
You will need to work as many stitches / chain as you need in multiples of 9 for the length you need for your belt.
However we work our 9 st pattern in a slightly complicated way – so let’s go..

Start : with 9 ch ; dc in the 4th ch from hk ;
(ch 9, dc in the 4th ch from hk) ;
rep (to) for the length of your belt.  Turn.

Check now that this length is sufficient for you.
You cannot add to the length after this row.

Now if you see what you have done you should have a loop and ch-5 separating it.  We will work our flower pattern in that loop.
So that first bit was a bit tricky, but now it’s going to be pretty easy.

In the following row we will work a dc 4-tog.
Check the top of this blog for a “how to”.

Row 1 : dc 4-tog in the 1st loop ;
ch 8, dc 4-tog in the same loop ;
*ch 1, dc 4-tog in the next loop ;
ch 8, dc 4-tog in the same loop* ;
rep *to* till the end ; ch 8,  Turn.

Now in the following row, we will complete the petals and make our 4-petalled flower working the balance of the 2 petals in the same loops as before.

The last ch-8 that you have worked is for the free end of your belt.
The other end (where you started) is where you will attach your belt buckle.

Row 2 : Rep Row 1, ending with a ch 5.  Turn.

The last row is pretty simple.  We will work sc in each st and 8 sc in the ch-8 sp.  In the middle of the 8 sc, we will work a ch-3 picot.
Please check the top of this blog for information on ‘how to picot’.
In case you are adding beads, this is where you will add them.

Please read the notes at the end of Row 3 before you start working on Row 3.

Row 3 : 5 sc in the 1st ch-5 sp ;
[sc in the dc 4-tog ; sc in the ch-1 sp ; sc in the dc 4-tog] ;
(4 sc + picot + 4 sc in the next ch-8 sp) ;
*rep [to] once ; rep (to) once* ;
rep *to* till end.

Notes :
1. At the free end, you could work a picot in that ch-8 sp as well
2. At the buckle end, attach your buckle when you reach the last st and then attach it to the 1st st.
