19th CONSONANT of the HINDI ALPHABET

going through the consonants of the Hindi alphabet.

Materials used : Today I’ve used local unbranded knitting cotton yarn with a 3.5 mm crochet hook ; fabric glue to seal ends ; stitch markers ; embroidery needle ; sewing needle ; Mod Podge to stiffen motif
For Indians : You could use Anchor , Red rose ; 4-ply knitting cotton , or unbranded knitting cotton or White Rose or bamboo knitting cotton , Milk cotton ; Silk yarns as well
General yarn info : The yarn used today is not specific to this pattern.
You can use any yarn with a suitable hook to make this project to any size.
International yarns : Among the international yarns I have used in this thickness, I’d suggest Aunt Lydia Cotton 10, Aunt Lydia Bamboo-Viscose 10, DMC Petra, Sullivans knitting cotton (Australia), Milford Soft, Hilaza Rustica Eclat , Alize cotton yarn and Alize bamboo yarn , Lily Sugar n' Cream cotton yarn

Using US terminology
Please
note that I start all rows with a ch 1 turning chain for ease.
Please
also check the top of this blog for neat video tutorials of all stitches used
in today’s pattern sheet.
Part 1 :
For this pattern, we work from the
bottom up.
Start Row 1 :
with 3 fsc. Turn.
Rows 2 - 3 :
sc in all 3 sts. Turn.
Row 4 :
sc in the 1st st ; hdc in the next st ;
dc in the last st. Turn.
Row 5 :
dc in the 1st st ; hdc in the next st ;
sc in the last st. Turn.
Rows 6 - 13 :
Rep Rows 4 & 8
Row 14 :
sc in all 3 sts. Turn.
In the following row we will work
along the edge of Rows 13 & 14 and then work on the lower half of the
alphabet.
Remember that the 1st st
at the corner is a sc (Row 14).
We sk that st and work in the 1st dc.
Row 15 :
ch 1, Work 2 sl-st along the side / post of the 1st dc ;
1 sc and 1 hdc along the post of the
next dc ;
1 dc along the post of the next dc
Turn.
Row 16 :
dc in the 1st st ;
hdc in the next st ; sc in the last
st. Turn.
Row 17 :
sc in the 1st st ;
hdc in the next st ; dc in the last
st. Turn.
Rows 18 - 22 :
Rep Rows 16 & 17
Row 23 :
sc in the 1st st ;
hdc in the next st ; dc in the last
st. Turn.
Single crochet 3-tog : sc

18. Turn.
Row 19 :
Work 2 sc + 12 hdc in the ch-8 sp ,
sl-st into side of Row 23 (sc 3-tog
st row).
This rounded bit is the top left of
our alphabet, but you got that, right?
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Part 2 :
Start Row 1 :
with 12 fsc. Turn.
Row 2 :
sc in all 12 sts. Turn.
Row 3 :
sc in all 12 sts ; ch 4. Turn.
Row 4 :
sc in the 2nd ch from hk, sc in the next 2 ch ;
sc in the next 3 sts ; 2 fsc. Turn.
Row 5 :
sc in all 8 sts. Turn.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Weave in ends.
Finishing :
We need to join Part 1 to Part 2
only from the base, using one of the joining methods, join these two together.
Block as needed per yarn
instructions.
How did I stiffen my alphabets?
For all my alphabets (whether English or Devnagari), I use Mod Podge (1 MP : 2 water) - so if doing a large batch its table spoons with the proportion or tea spoon depending on quantity needed.
For Indians : Fevicol or Fevicryl Fabric glue in similar proportions works as well.
