ANNANAS TABLE COVER

This is a large nearly 4’ diameter (just over 40”) table cover that I’ve just completed.  It’s been a while since I worked with such fine thread but it’s been a great experience.
Annanas means pineapple in Hindi.

Materials used : Today I’ve used some local (Indian) Red Heart / Coats Doli thread with a 1.75 mm crochet hook.
If you need beads etc check here or here or here

For Indians : You could use Anchor , Red ros ; Red rose metallic or  unbranded  knitting cotton as well

General yarn info : Today’s yarn is not specific for this pattern.  For this project, use any yarn with a suitable hook to make this project to any size.

Finished size About 42” diameter

Difficulty level : Intermediate

Stitches used :
Starting slip knot : Here’s how you start with a slip knot.  https://youtu.be/lJcqsVcs8cw

Starting slip knot 1 or the Sloppy Slip knot : This is a neat new way to start your work without a slip knot.  https://youtu.be/YfC7KmGpifs

Magic circle : To refresh your skill, please view this easy video https://youtu.be/ISC39yOqWro

What is a chain stitch ? Here is an easy video tutorial https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pXx5ukBjKkY

Single Crochet : Sc : yo, insert hk into st ; yo (2 lps on hk); yo, draw through both lps.  One sc made.  Check out the video at https://youtu.be/ghACqBpA-3k

First stitch for Single Crochet : This is how I like to start my row of sc. Check out the video at https://youtu.be/6pVYRfsf4_M

Foundation Single Crochet : fsc : To refresh your skill on the fsc, please view this video https://youtu.be/mcT85fwh4mA

Double Crochet : dc : yo, insert hk into st ; yo (3 lps on hk);
[yo, draw through 2 lps] twice.  One dc made.
Check out the video at https://youtu.be/xdnjB27zpYo

Chainless start for Double Crochet : I dislike the ch-2 / ch – 3 start, and this is what I do to start my row of dc.
Check out the video at https://youtu.be/wskv3iTjRx0

How to work a picot stitch : Traditionally for a ch-3 picot, you work (ch 3, sl-st in 3rd ch from hook).  For a ch-5 picot, you will do (ch 5, sl-st in 5th ch from hook).
Here’s a great video https://youtu.be/8s3zVaBcn4s

For today’s project I’ve made this doily from an old Japanese book for exquisite lace doilies.  I only have this image for the front cover of the book to share with you.

That said, there are so many doily charts that you find freely these days.. like this one https://www.free-crochetpattern.com/2018/03/amazing-fine-lace-crochet-patterns.html , so use this as an inspiration to get cracking on your own wonderful large creation in this New Year.

Remember that all doilies show up best when blocked as per yarn instructions.

Enjoyed this ?? I sure did.. Come back right here for more freebie patterns

  1. Hi shyama. That's a lovely table cover but I cannot find the instructions as the others for this one. Do I need to click on any links to get the instructions?

    1. Hi Megha. With this pattern, you'll see that I've used a pattern book, and I can't share instructions from there. I have, however, shared links of charts 'similar' to my pattern which you can use. Hope this helps.
