COOL CAT COVE

It must have been over six months since I found this faux grass and this project has been wasting away in my mind and the cupboard.
I’m thrilled that it’s finally done and seeing the light of day.
My foster kitty has approved – so that’s one client totally happy!

This pattern is in a note form as there are no specific stitches.
This is just an idea to get your creativity going.

I was lucky to find a plastic “matty-cloth / embroidery cloth” like base.  But I think thick cotton denim cloth , canvas or tarp, should work too.

Using this plastic matty was easier as I had a guide and I used the holes to work my stitches – passing my yarn and hook through the hole and working the stitches.  In case you can’t find this, then I guess what you can do is work a rectangle for the top first, and then attach it to the denim or tarp to tauten / stiffen it a bit.

Stitches I used sc / hdc and sc-blo.
I started with a long fsc chain that was the breadth of my cat home.
I then worked a row of hdc and then worked sc-blo all the way back.
I continued this pattern till I covered the full matty sheet – or till I had the rectangle completed that made the top of the cat home or cave.

So the ridges that you get with working in the back loop not just give it a little toughness but also this lovely feature.

As I had this matty base, I just worked it for the length / width of the base.

The pattern is easy enough, but it is a bit of a struggle working with the matty and trying to get the stitches through the plastic sheeting – but then the rest of it is easy peasy – and the kitty loves it.

Now in case you are unable to find the plastic matty sheet or are unable to work your stitches through it, just make a rectangle that is the same length and width of the sheet and then sew it on after you are done, with an embroidery needle.

For the base of my cat home, I used this faux grass mat. I just attached my matty top to the base and voila ! I have, as you can see, only attached two of the shorter sides onto the faux grass mat, but if you have a larger rectangle, then you could attach three sides too.
So go on, let’s create something cute for our four pawed furry someone special

I hope you enjoyed today’s creative session.
