Materials used : Today I’ve used some local (Indian) Red Heart / Coats Doli thread with a 1.75 mm crochet hook.
If you need beads etc check here or here or here

For Indians : You could use Anchor , Red ros ; Red rose metallic or  unbranded  knitting cotton as well

General yarn info : Today’s yarn is not specific for this pattern.
For this project, use any yarn with a suitable hook to make this project to any size.
International yarns :  Among the international yarns I have used, I’d suggest Aunt Lydia Cotton 10, Aunt Lydia Bamboo-Viscose 10, DMC Petra, Sullivans knitting cotton (Australia), Milford Soft, Hilaza Rustica Eclat , Alize cotton yarn and Alize bamboo yarn.

Difficulty level : Easy to Intermediate

Stitches used :
Starting slip knot : Here’s how you start with a slip knot.  https://youtu.be/lJcqsVcs8cw

Starting slip knot 1 or the Sloppy Slip knot : This is a neat new way to start your work without a slip knot.  https://youtu.be/YfC7KmGpifs

Magic circle : To refresh your skill, please view this easy video https://youtu.be/ISC39yOqWro

What is a chain stitch ? Here is an easy video tutorial https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pXx5ukBjKkY

Single Crochet : Sc : yo, insert hk into st ; yo (2 lps on hk); yo, draw through both lps.  One sc made.  Check out the video at https://youtu.be/ghACqBpA-3k

First stitch for Single Crochet : This is how I like to start my row of sc. Check out the video at https://youtu.be/6pVYRfsf4_M

Foundation Single Crochet : fsc : To refresh your skill on the fsc, please view this video https://youtu.be/mcT85fwh4mA

Double Crochet : dc : yo, insert hk into st ; yo (3 lps on hk);
[yo, draw through 2 lps] twice.  One dc made.
Check out the video at https://youtu.be/xdnjB27zpYo

Chainless start for Double Crochet : I dislike the ch-2 / ch – 3 start, and this is what I do to start my row of dc.
Check out the video at https://youtu.be/wskv3iTjRx0

Double crochet 2-tog : dc 2-tog :  [yo, insert hk in st or ch-sp, yo and pull up a lp ; yo and draw through 2 lps] 2 times (3 lps on hk) ;
{yo, draw through 2 lps on hk} 2 times.  One dc 2-tog made.
This video tutorial at https://youtu.be/1_oPlUfN5eg shows you how to use the dc 2-tog to decrease.
Sometimes we work the dc 2-tog in the same stitch, to use as a decorative stitch.
Visit this video tutorial at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MCQOBc83Vxo

How to work a picot stitch : Traditionally for a ch-3 picot, you work (ch 3, sl-st in 3rd ch from hook).  For a ch-5 picot, you will do (ch 5, sl-st in 5th ch from hook).
Here’s a great video https://youtu.be/8s3zVaBcn4s

Instruction information

Sweet Nothings crochet free crochet pattern blog, full photo of the Begonia Doily,

For today’s Begonia Doily, I’ve used a chart that I found on the web.
These are my notes for what I have made.

Sweet Nothings crochet free crochet pattern blog, full chart of the Begonia Doily,

Please note that I start all my rounds with a ch 1 turning chain for ease.
Please check the top of this blog for a video tutorial on all the stitches needed to make this full project.
Finally please note that I take a lot of trouble trying to make my notes as easy as possible - so do go through all my detailed notes before you pick up your yarn.

Start Round 1 : with a  magic circle and work 16 dc in that circle.
Join with a sl-st to the 1st st.

In the following round we work a dc 2-tog.
Please check the top of this blog for an easy video tutorial if needed.

Round 2 : dc 2-tog in the 1st dc ;
(ch 2, dc 2-tog in the next dc) ;
rep (to) all the way around ;
ch 2 and join with a sl-st to the 1st st.

Round 3 : sl-st into the 1st ch-2 sp , (dc ; ch 2, dc) in the same 1st ch-2 sp ;
*ch 2, dc in the next ch-2 sp ; rep (to) in the next ch-2 sp*
rep *to* all the way around ;
ch 2 and join with a sl-st to the 1st st.

Round 4 : sl-st into the 1st ch-2 sp , 3 dc in the same 1st ch-2 sp ;
*ch 1, dc in the next ch-2 sp*
rep *to* all the way around ;
ch 1 and join with a sl-st to the 1st st.

In the following round, you could do a small cheat.
We need to work in the ch-1 sps for which you would need to sl-st past the 1st 3 dc.  What you could also do is turn your work around and start with a sc in that very 1st ch-1 sp without any sl-st.
As these are only chains, there is no right and wrong side.

Remember that if you use this idea, you need to turn back at the end of the round.
That said, this is just an idea.  Choose what suits you.

Round 5 : sl-st into the 1st ch-1 sp , sc in the same 1st ch-1 sp ;
*ch 5, sc in the next ch-1 sp*
rep *to* all the way around ;
ch 5 and join with a sl-st to the 1st st.

In our last round, I’ve changed the pattern a bit and I’ve added in a picot stitch.
The video tutorial shows you how to work a ch-3 and ch-5 picot.
Choose what suits you.

How to work a picot stitch :

In case this video does not come on, go to https://youtu.be/8s3zVaBcn4s

Round 6 : sl-st into the 1st ch-5 sp , sc in the same 1st ch-5 sp ;
*ch 2, 3 dc + picot + 3 dc in the next ch-5 sp ; ch 2, sc in the next ch-5 sp*
rep *to* all the way around ;
ch 2 and join with a sl-st to the 1st st.

Fasten off and weave in ends.
