2nd
CONSONANT of the HINDI ALPHABET
If

Devnagari script and have finished the vowels and started on the consonants of
the Hindi alphabet.

Materials used : Today I’ve used local unbranded knitting cotton yarn with a 3.5 mm crochet hook ; fabric glue to seal ends ; stitch markers ; embroidery needle ; sewing needle ; Mod Podge to stiffen motif
For Indians : You could use Anchor , Red rose ; 4-ply knitting cotton , or unbranded knitting cotton or White Rose or bamboo knitting cotton , Milk cotton ; Silk yarns as well
General yarn info : The yarn used today is not specific to this pattern.
You can use any yarn with a suitable hook to make this project to any size.
International yarns : Among the international yarns I have used in this thickness, I’d suggest Aunt Lydia Cotton 10, Aunt Lydia Bamboo-Viscose 10, DMC Petra, Sullivans knitting cotton (Australia), Milford Soft, Hilaza Rustica Eclat , Alize cotton yarn and Alize bamboo yarn , Lily Sugar n' Cream cotton yarn

Instruction information
Please note that I start all rows with a ch 1 turning chain
for ease.
Please

in today’s pattern sheet.
Part 1 :
Start Row 1 : with 12 fsc.
Turn.
Row 2 :
sc in all 12 sts. Turn.
Row 3 :
sc in all 12 sts ; ch 4. Turn.
Row 4 :
sc in the 2nd ch from hk, sc in the next 2 ch ;
sc
in the next 3 sts ; 15 fsc. Turn.
Rows 5 & 6 : sc in all 21 sts. Turn.
Fasten
off and weave in ends.
Weave
in ends.
Part 2 :
In
this part we will work on the left hand side rounded “Kha” part.
So
keeping the front of your work facing you and with the top on the right hand
side, re-attach yarn on the 6th st from the top.
Start Row 1 : sc in the same 6th st and in
the next 2 sts. Turn.
Row 2 : dc in the 1st
st ; hdc in the next st ; sc in the last st. Turn.
Row 3 :
sc in the 1st st ; hdc in the next st ; dc in the last st. Turn.
Row 4 :
sk 1st st ; dc + hdc in the
next st ; sc in the last st. Turn.
Row 5 :
sk 1st st ; sc + hdc in the
next st ; dc in the last st. Turn.
Rows 6 – 9 : Rep Rows
4 & 5.
Rows 10 – 12 : sc in
all 3 sts. Turn.
Fasten
off and leave a tail for attachment.
To
attach, sk 1 st and attach. Weave in
ends.
Part 3 :
In
this part we will work on the second (front) part of “Kha”.
So
keeping the front of your work facing away from you (such that what we just
worked on is now on your left hand side), re-attach yarn in the 5th st from the
right hand side /end.
Start Row 1 : sc in the same 5th st and in
the next 2 sts. Turn.
Rows 2 - 6 : sc in all 3 sts. Turn.
Row 7 :
sk 1st st ; sc + hdc in the next st ; dc in the last st. Turn.
Row 8 :
sk 1st st ; dc + hdc in the next st ; sc in the last st. Turn.
Row 9 :
Rep Row 7
We
now need to sl-st down the post of the stitches and work on the lower half of
this stitch. We will turn 90° to achieve
this.
So
the corner stitches are dc, and you will work 2 sl-st in the 1st
post and 1 sl-st in the 2nd post.
Row 10 :
2 sl-st in the post of the 1st
dc ; 1 sl-st + 1 dc in the post of the next dc ;
hdc
+ sc in post of the next dc. Turn.
Row 11 :
sc in the 1st st ; hdc in the next st ; dc in the last st. Turn.
Rows 12 - 17 : Rep Rows
10 & 11
Fasten
off
Weave
in ends.
Block
as needed per yarn instructions.
How did I stiffen my alphabets?
For all my alphabets (whether English or Devnagari), I use Mod Podge (1 MP : 2 water) - so if doing a large batch its table spoons with the proportion or tea spoon depending on quantity needed.
For Indians : Fevicol or Fevicryl Fabric glue in similar proportions works as well.
