Materials used : Today I’ve used some polyester silk purse yarn with a 4 mm crochet hook and a ring.  For the ring, I’ve used a bangle.
If you need beads etc check here or here or here
For eyes, check here or here
We need a total of four colors ; one for the centre of eyes, one for around eyes, one for the nose, and the last main color for the body and ears – but we could work it all in one or two colors too – let your creativity fly

General yarn info : The yarn used today is not specific to this pattern.
You can use any cotton yarn with a suitable hook to make this project to any size.

What is a chain stitch ? Here is an easy video tutorial https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pXx5ukBjKkY

Instruction information Using U.S terminology
Please note that I start all rows with a ch 1 turning chain for ease.
Please also check the top of this blog for neat video tutorials of all stitches used in today’s pattern sheet.  For your convenience, video tutorials are on top of the rows you will need them as well.
Please go through the full instruction sheet before you start, so you get an idea of what we’re doing.  There is an option for the ending which you may miss out on if you do not read through.  Cheers.

As mentioned before, I have worked with a total of four colors ; one for the centre of eyes, one for around eyes, one for the nose, and the last main color for the body and ears
You may want to take a look at a video for how to work seamlessly in rounds at at https://youtu.be/ISBZK7Du7yE

Part 1 : Eyes (Make 2)
Magic circle : To refresh your skill, please view this easy video https://youtu.be/ISC39yOqWro

Double Crochet : dc : yo, insert hk into st ; yo (3 lps on hk);
[yo, draw through 2 lps] twice.  One dc made.
Check out the video at https://youtu.be/xdnjB27zpYo

Chainless start for Double Crochet : I dislike the ch-2 / ch – 3 start, and this is what I do to start my row of dc.
Check out the video at https://youtu.be/wskv3iTjRx0

What is a slip stitch : Here is a neat video tutorial at https://youtu.be/weB3QNbA8Iw

Start Round 1 : with white yarn and a magic circle and 8 dc in it.
Join with a sl-st to the 1st st.

Round 2 : 2 dc in the 1st dc and in each dc all around.
Join with a sl-st to the 1st st.

How to change colors seamlessly : Here’s an easy video tutorial to show you how to change from the Main color to the Contrast or second color of yarn seamlessly.

Round 3 : Change to contrast color for around eyes ; fasten off white :
sc in the 1st st and in each st all around.
Join with a sl-st to the 1st st.

Fasten off contrast color and leave a tail for attachment on one eye piece.
Make 2nd eye in the same way.

Once both eyes are done, place them next to one another and attach them together using any 3 stitches per side of eyes.  .. i.e use 3 sts along the centre of the eyes to join.

Part 2 : Nose
Start with nose color yarn and a magic circle.
Work 3 dc in it.
Pull together but do not close – leave like a semicircle.

Row 2 : sc in all 3 dc.
Fasten off and leave a tail for attachment.

To finish – look at the photo above and attach this tiny triangular nose to the bottom of the eyes.

Part 3 : Body
Re-attach your body color yarn to the 1st st of around eye (in my case the purple round) just next to the nose.

How to work a picot stitch : Traditionally for a ch-3 picot, you work (ch 3, sl-st in 3rd ch from hook).  For a ch-5 picot, you will do (ch 5, sl-st in 5th ch from hook).

Single crochet 2-together : sc 2-tog :
Insert hk into st, yo and pull up a lp (2 lps on hk) ; insert hk into next sc, yo and pull up a lp (3 lps on hk); yo and draw through all 3 lps.  One sc 2-tog complete.

In case this video does not come on, please visit https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=whlsMemDHLc

Round 1 : sc in the 1st st ;
2 sc in each of the next 5 sts ;
(hdc + dc + picot + hdc) all in the next st ;
2 sc in each of the next 5 sts ; sc 2-tog over the next 2 sts ;
2 sc in each of the next 5 sts ;
rep (to) in the next st ; 2 sc in each st till the last st ;
sc in the last st.
Join with a sl-st to the 1st st.

Part 4 : Ring
Place your ring at the bottom of the upper part of the face and attach the ring all around using the same body color yarn.
So I’ve attached the 1st 4 sts and then work sts just around the ring, and when you reach the other end, attach with the last 5 sts again. The last st being the one just under the nose.
Fasten off and weave in ends.

IF you do not have a ring, use a bangle .. if you don’t have that too, do not stress or rush out to get one.  All you need to do is first attach your yarn just in the centre bottom of one eye, and then work a set of sts  (either sl-st or sc) to go through to the centre bottom of the other eye. Then you run a length of chain that would suffice for the towel to go through and attach this to the 1st st.  Then just to make this a bit thicker and easier to hold your towel, I’d suggest you work hdc in each chain all around.

Once done, you move into Part 4A for the top holding bit. Please take a look at the photograph to see what we're working on.

Part 4A : For this bit, I have worked a length of chain and then also attached a smaller ring to the centre.  You do not need that ring – I just hand one handy.
Once again, attach your yarn to the centre (top) of eye and just run a length of chain and if using a ring, work a few sc around the ring, and then work the same length of chain for the second side (as you have for the first side) and join with a sl-st to the centre top of the 2nd eye.
Please use the photograph as a guide.

Before you fasten off, please hold your creation up with the ring or centre of chain and see that it holds.

If you do not have a ring (for Part 2), or do not wish to use one, here’s another tweak.

Work as many chain as you want for the length, and then work 6 chain more ; Turn and sl-st into the 5th ch from hk and then continue with the same length of chain that you worked for the other side (before the 6 chain for the loop).
This loop of 6 chain is where you will hang your topper onto the nail on your bathroom or kitchen wall.

Part 5 : Finishing
Attach a black bead or a ready made eye in the centre of your owl’s whites of the eyes.
Attach a yarn from the ring to the top for attachment to the ring on the wall

Secure your towel holder onto the wall and hang your towel through and smile.  This is a beautiful project – one that can not only be made in several colors, but using any yarn and any hook that’s suitable for that yarn.
