EASY KNOTTED HEADBAND - 2
We’ve been working on headband patterns for the past few days.
With us all being locked down and shut in, I feel that a quick project that starts and ends in one day makes us feel great – and I think that we all need a great high especially now that we’re all locked in at home.
So while everyone is cursing the Corona virus, shall we say yaay, I made something beautiful today and spread loads of positive energy out to The Universe? Come along, let’s do something nice today.

Do join me on YouTube for loads of crochet video tutorials.  Check all my social media links at the bottom of this blog – or just write Sweet Nothings Crochet or Shyama Nivas and find me on any and all social media
Thanks for joining me.  Come along, let’s create something beautiful

In today's pattern we use a Seed stitch - working it with a hdc and a slip stitch.
The regular Seed stitch uses dc and sc.
Working with a sl-st gives it this interesting lined effect along with everything else.
The top of this blog has video tutorials for hdc and sl-st.

What did I do differently?
Well, for one, as always, I like to start my work with the chain-less foundation stitches.
So I started with foundation half double crochet or fhdc.
Don’t worry – there’s a video tutorial for this and how to work a slip stitch too at the top of this blog

I would urge you to try the fhdc, and start with an even number of stitches
In case you can’t, then go to the link above and start with chain stitches as given.

All I suggest is that you check that you have (a) an even number of sts at the end and (b) it fits your head.

The pattern used is a Seed stitch, alternating a half double crochet with a slip stitch and getting a lovely feature for both front and back of your headband.
The tight little knot on top just adds even more beauty to this delightful creation.

1. Hat circumference = measure around the head just above ears and subtract one inch for a nicely fitted finished hat.
2. Crown width = (this is a flat circular top of the hat) you need to divide hat circumference by 3.14 (pi).
3. Hat height = Head circumference / 10 x 4.

So you need to measure circumference of the head (round head measurement) and keep checking the outer circumference of your work.
There is another trick for measuring circumference (without running your measure tape all around the edge of your circle as you are working).
This works for a cap that you are working top down, from the crown of the head.
It works by dividing your round head measure by pi (3.14).
So say your head measurement is 22, divide 22 by 3.14 = 7.
Remember when calculating diameter, you must account for the stretch of your yarn too.
So once the ‘flat portion’ for the crown (or the first few rounds while you are still increasing) of your cap is 7” diameter, you can stop increases and start increasing just the length (without increasing stitches for the round)
