BEADED HAIR NET - 7
In this 2nd last set of hair net bun covers, I’ve gone to town with a combination of ideas. Yesterday I made a beaded hair net using 7 beads.
Today we’re working with just one large bead for the centre and a combination of different patterns made by me earlier.

Materials used : Today I’ve used (Indian) Anchor knitting cotton yarn with a 3 mm crochet hook ; a 4” cardboard round cut-out ; a good elastic or rubber band that goes around the pony tail of your child (so say about 2.5 - 3” with a good stretch), one large bead for the centre.
General yarn info : Today’s yarn are not specific for this pattern. You could use any yarn with a suitable hook to make this project to any size.
For Indians : You could use Red rose ; Red rose metallic or unbranded knitting cotton as well as Oswal or Vardhaman acrylic yarns

sc : single crochet dc : Double crochet
ch : chain ch-sp : chain space
sp : space rep : Repeat
hk : hook lp (s) : loop(s)
yo : yarn over sl-st : slip stitch
dc 2-tog : Double crochet 2-together
hdc : Half double crochet
Instructions using U.S terminology
Please note that I start all my rounds with a ch 1 turning chain for ease.

Please read through the full sheet before you pick up your hook n yarn.
For today’s pattern we’re going to have a few general notes.
This hair net can fit almost all bun sizes.
The final size is about 4” and this should work for a tiny to medium sized bun. For an extra large bun, you just need to work a few more rounds.
Instructions
Start with a bead that goes through yarn and hook.
Work a slip knot and then pass yarn and hook through bead ;
yarn over and work a sl-st ;
yarn over, turn bead and sl-st again through other end of bead.
You should now have the bead in the centre with two bits of yarn going through and around both sides of the bead.
We will now work our sc around the two bits of yarn that go around the bead.
Round 1 : work 4 sc in the 1st sp (around bead) ;
work 4 sc around the next ch-sp
(around other side of bead) ;
join to the 1st st.
In the next round we will work a dc 2-tog.
Please check the top of this blog for a video tutorial if needed.
Round 2 : dc 2-tog in the 1st sc ;
(ch 3, dc 2-tog in the next sc) ;
rep (to) all around ;
ch 1 + dc and join to the 1st st.
You are now in the centre of the ch-3 sp. Place marker for convenience.
You start right here.
In case this is confusing, please work a ch-3 and join to the 1st st.
Remember though that with each new round, you will need to sl-st into the centre of the 1st ch-3 sp.
Round 3 : sc in the 1st ch-sp ;
(ch 3, sc in the next ch-3 sp) ;
rep (to) all around ;
ch 1 + hhdc and join to the 1st st.
Round 4 : Increase round :
sc in the 1st ch-3 sp ;
ch 3, sc in the same 1st ch-3 sp ;
(ch 3, sc in the next ch-3 sp ;
ch 3, sc in the same ch-3 sp) ;
rep (to) all around ;
ch 1 + hdc and join to the 1st st.
Round 5 : sc in the 1st ch-1 sp ;
(ch 3, sc in the next ch-3 sp) ;
rep (to) all around ;
ch 1 + hdc and join to the 1st st.
Round 6 : sc in the 1st ch-3 sp ;
(ch 3, sc in the next ch-3 sp) ;
rep (to) all around ;
ch 1 + hdc and join to the 1st st.
Rounds 7 – 10 : Rep Round 3.
Check the diameter of your circle.
You should have about 4 – 4 ½” for a small bun.
If not, then work one round of increase and then one or two rounds without increase. Remember to keep checking diameter.
Now comes the fun part. We need to attach on the elastic.
So hold your elastic against that last round, and work sc all around looping it around your elastic as well as the bun stitches.
2nd Last round : We work 2 sc in each ch-sp all around and join with a sl-st.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Note that when working with elastic, you will need to stretch the elastic a bit and ease your stitches around as you work.

So we hold the elastic near the first st, and work the first stitch into both the elastic and your hair net.
Work 1 sc in each sc all around, stretching the elastic gently as you work all around.
Join to the 1st st.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Tweak idea 1 : To change it just a little bit, start with the bead in the centre, but instead of working 4 sc in each side, try 6 sc. This means you end up with 12 sts and this just gives you a slightly larger base to start on.
Work as per pattern all through though, and see how this works out for you.
Tweak idea 2 : Start with 16 sts. This means you need to work 8 sc in each side for a total of 16 sts. You will then work Round 3 dc 2-tog over 16 sts for a more open pattern.
As we already have 16 sts though, I did not work any increase rounds. The 32 ch-sps were sufficient for the size I needed.

Finishing :
Remember to turn your hair net over and fasten off that first starting yarn and glue all ends down.
As this is a hair net and the last round needs stretch, remember to glue just the end of that final yarn.
Do not glue too long a length, as it reduces stretch.
