NAILED IT SCARF

This is a really simple pattern that goes wavy and zig zaggy almost magically.
I’d say this is truly a must-try pattern.
Oh and the beauty is that it’s a one row pattern.. so come on along and let’s work on today’s pattern together.

This creation has two patterns for a matching pair of fingerless gloves at   https://shyamanivas.blogspot.com/2021/06/nailed-it-fingerless-gloves.html and a matching beanie at https://shyamanivas.blogspot.com/2021/06/nailed-it-beanie.html

Materials used : Today I’ve used some soft 4-ply acrylic yarn with a 4 mm crochet hook
This is just yarn that was gifted to me as part balls with no label.
This pattern is simple enough to use with any lighter yarn.  I suggest lighter as the pattern works in a bulky effect that also makes your scarf / cowl pretty warm

For Indians : You could use Anchor , Red ros ; Red rose metallic or  unbranded  knitting cotton as well as Oswal or Vardhaman acrylic yarns

International yarns :  Among the international yarns I have used, I’d suggest Aunt Lydia Cotton 10, Aunt Lydia Bamboo-Viscose 10, DMC Petra, Sullivans knitting cotton (Australia), Milford Soft, Hilaza Rustica Eclat , Alize cotton yarn and Alize bamboo yarn.

Difficulty level : Easy Skill level.

Pattern notes : Using US Terminology

Please note that I start all my rows with a ch 1, turning chain for ease.

Please check the top of this blog for easy video tutorials on all stitches used in today's pattern.  For your convenience there video tutorials through the blog too

Please read through all my notes before you pick up your hook, so you know just where we're heading in our pattern.

In my patterns I work with the principle of stitch count and body measurement.  This means that you need to work the stitch count in pattern, till you get the measurement (length and/or width) that you need for your project.

Here is a simple video tutorial for this pattern.

With today’s project, I will give you the pattern and then ideas on how to make it a scarf, cowl or wrap.

Our stitch count for this pattern is in multiples of 3 + 1

Start Row 1 : with as many fsc in multiples of 3 + 1  as you want for the width of your scarf / cowl or wrap.  Turn.

Row 2 : (ch 3 + 2 dc) all in the 1st fsc ;
*sk the next 2 fsc, sc in the next fsc ;
rep (to) all in the same next fsc* ;
rep *to* till the last 3 fsc ;
sk last 2 fsc, sc in the last fsc.

In the following rows, you will work all the pattern stitches just in that ch-3 sp every time.  It’s that easy.

Row 3 : (ch 3 + 2 dc) all in the 1st sc ;
*sk the next 2 dc, sc in the next ch-3 sp ;
rep (to) all in the same ch-3 sp* ;
rep *to* till the end ;
sk last 2 dc, sc in the last ch-3 sp.

And that’s it… our pattern done ! How easy is this, right?

Sweet Nothings Crochet free crochet pattern blog, free crochet pattern for a scarf, photo of the Nailed It scarf,

Rep Row 3 till you get the length you want for your scarf or cowl.

In case you are making a cowl, use on of these joining methods to join your ends.

Whipstitch to join : https://youtu.be/wZ-9LNzftMA
Single crochet to join : https://youtu.be/6FXoW_47_dI
In case you are making a scarf or wrap, we need to run a row of stitches along the last row.
Now remember the number of stitches you have started with and basically you need to get the same number here.
So work 1 sc in the 1st st ; then work 2 sc per ch-3 sp and 1 sc per sc all through and this should get you to that same start number of stitches.

Alright then, some ideas on how to make this a scarf or infinity cowl or wrap.

The only difference between a cowl and a scarf is that the cowl is joined at the ends, and the scarf is not.

For a cowl : Once you get the length needed, join the ch-3 sp to the 1st fsc row using one of the joining techniques given below.

There is another join that you could also do – for this pattern I mean.
So start with a sc in the 1st st ; ch 1, sc in the 1st fsc  ;
(ch 1, sc in the next ch-sp ; ch 1, sk 2 fsc, sc in the next fsc) ;
rep (to) till the end.
Fasten off and weave in ends.

For a scarf or wrap : You just need to figure out the width and length and you are done.  With the width remember that you need to keep the stitch count in mind.  Once done, for a scarf, you can opt to add some tassels at the end – thin or nice squiggly wiggly ones for a younger child.

For tassels, just decide on the length you want per tassel and then cut double that length.  Hold about 6 strands together and loop them evenly through the end rows and you are done.
