Materials used : Today I’ve used about 45 gms Stallion 8-ply acrylic yarn with a 4 mm crochet hook ; fabric glue to seal ends

This yarn is not specific for this project.
You can use any yarn with a suitable hook to make this project to any size.

For Indians : The yarn I've used is very similar in thickness to our Oswal or Vardhaman acrylic yarns or Laura knitting cotton.

Instructions   (Using U.S terminology)
Please note that I start all my rows with a ch 1, turning chain for ease.
Please check the top of this blog for easy video tutorials on all stitches used in today's pattern.
Please read through all my notes before you pick up your hook, so you know just where we're heading in our pattern.

There are two pattern ideas.. see which works for you

Pattern 1 :
Our gloves today will be from just below your wrist to just above the halfway mark of your fingers.  There will be an opening for your thumb.

We work a rectangle that will be the length (from below wrist to halfway up your fingers) & the width (which is the round palm measurement from around the base of your fingers)

Here's where you have a small calculation to work out.
1) Measure the length you want for your gloves.
2) Measure your round wrist and measure around the palm (just at the base of your fingers - that bony bit just after the palm which is the largest part).

Generally for ladies we work about 18 - 19 cm / 7 - 7 1/2" ; and for me we work 19 - 20 cm or 7 1/2 - 8" for around palm measurement

Our stitch count for this pattern is in multiples of 3 + 1

Start Row 1 : with as many fsc in multiples of 3 + 1  as you want for the length you want for your fingerless gloves.  Turn.
I started with 28 fsc = 8.5"
Note : Make a note of this number so you can work the 2nd glove without confusion.

Here is a simple video tutorial for this pattern.
The video was made when I made my scarf.  So while the pattern stays the same, we will be working in rounds for our gloves - so we will join at the end of each round.

In case this video does not come on, visit me at https://youtu.be/LAa6HU5mZdU

Row 2 : (ch 3 + 2 dc) all in the 1st fsc ;
*sk the next 2 fsc, sc in the next fsc ;
rep (to) all in the same next fsc* ;
rep *to* till the last 3 fsc ;
sk last 2 fsc, sc in the last fsc.

In the following rows, you will work all the pattern stitches just in that ch-3 sp every time.  It’s that easy.

Row 3 : (ch 3 + 2 dc) all in the 1st sc ;
*sk the next 2 dc, sc in the next ch-3 sp ;
rep (to) all in the same ch-3 sp* ;
rep *to* till the end ;
sk last 2 dc, sc in the last ch-3 sp.

And that’s it… our pattern done ! How easy is this, right?

Rep Round 3 for the round wrist measurement.

You can join straight off or you can work one row to make a straight end before joining.

Optional Last row : sc in the 1st st ;
3 sc in the 1st ch-3 sp and in each ch-3 sp till end.
Fasten off and leave a tail for joining.

Use one of these joining methods given below.

How do you join?
You have a neat rectangle - and you will join along the length (or join the starting & end rows) to make a cylinder.  You need to leave a small opening for the thumb.
Starting at one end, join the two parts for about 5 cm / 2" (for a lady) or 7 cm / 3" (for a man).  You then leave a gap of 5 cm (lady) / 7 cm (man) and continue joining all the way to the end.

Now if you want just a little bit more leeway around the wrist (either tighter or looser) I'd suggest you work in a small loop on one side of the end, and add a button on the other side. You will therefore, not stitch up all the way to the end, but leave a section unstitched - and that's where you'd work in the loop & button.

How do I work a loop ?
There is a little bit of figuring to do here - as you'll see when you read through

The easiest way to do that is work a length of chain (that you will double back on itself) for the button you are using.
So when you finish the last row of sc to straighten the end, I'd work the loop just after that.
So work 1 sc (so that your loop is not right off the end) and then work say ch 6 and then work 1 sc in the next st and you get a loop.  Check that the loop you have is right for your button.  Obviously, if you are using a smaller button, work less chain, and more chain for a larger button.

The other way to work a loop is to work the ch 6 (or whatever number you need to go around your button) and then sl-st in the same sc that you started the ch from.

Remember that your yarn stretches, so this loop will get looser with use and wear - so when you make your loop, give it a tug and see how much it stretches around your button.

Once the loop has been worked in, continue on to join the top part of the glove, leaving a thumb opening.

What you must remember when you're adding a button and loop is that you will have a definite left hand and right hand glove - so when you make your thumb openings, be sure you keep that right.

Pattern 2 :
Skill level : Intermediate to Advanced

Our gloves are once again from wrist to top of fingers - but this is specially for those who have more than 1" difference between wrist and top of palm - or if you want it snugger along the wrist.

To do this, we first work a wrist band and then we work the pattern for the top of the glove.
We then work from side to side increasing the length of the glove, from wrist to the top of fingers / palm

The wrist band is worked in sc-blo or single crochet back loop only for the round wrist measurement.
You then have a choice of joining this end bit or leaving it free and adding a button.

Read just above on this blog on how you can attach a button and make a loop

Once we have worked the round wrist band (which is a longish rectangle), we will work along one of the longer ends of the rectangle to get our pattern done.

Once again we need the length calculation (from wrist to top of palm) and we will deduct the wrist band width from the length - or ensure that you work the pattern only for as long as you need it, including the length of the wrist band.

As before, you will join the two sides, leaving the thumb opening.

Finally, use 4 mm crochet hook for working the wrist band, and a 4.5 mm crochet hook for working the pattern.
I say this mainly as (or if) you are looking to increase the top portion for ease.
In case you find the pattern section offers sufficient ease (with your tension and yarn stretch), please use 4 mm only.

Right, let's start on this creation.

Start Row 1 :  with 7 fsc.Turn
7 fsc = 2" (for me)

From the next row on, we will work sc-blo or single crochet back loop only

In case the video does not come on, check the top of this blog for a video tutorial link.

Single crochet back loop only (sc-blo) : Here is an easy video tutorial

Row 2 :  sc-blo in each sc till end.  Turn
Note : If you find it difficult to get to the sc-blo in the 1st and last st, work a sc.

Rep Row 2 till this rectangular wrist band goes easily around your wrist.

Stitch count : We need stitches in multiples of 3 + 1
I worked 31 sc along the top of my sc-blo row.

Row 3 :  sc in each st till end.  Turn

Row 4 : (ch 3 + 2 dc) all in the 1st sc ;
*sk the next 2 sc, sc in the next sc ;
rep (to) all in the same next sc* ;
rep *to* till the last 3 sc ;
sk last 2 sc, sc in the last sc.

In the following rows, you will work all the pattern stitches just in that ch-3 sp every time.  It’s that easy.

Row 5 : (ch 3 + 2 dc) all in the 1st sc ;
*sk the next 2 dc, sc in the next ch-3 sp ;
rep (to) all in the same ch-3 sp* ;
rep *to* till the end ;
sk last 2 dc, sc in the last ch-3 sp.

Rep Round 5 for the length you need (from wrist to top of palms).

Fasten off & leave a long tail for attachment.

As before, you will join the two sides, leaving the thumb opening.

And again as mentioned at the top of this blog, this creation has a matching scarf at https://shyamanivas.blogspot.com/2020/03/nailed-it-scarf.html
