WICKER COWL
I have been given a second bag of yarn and requested to make beanies & / or scarves for the homeless. I'm hoping that there's going to be even more yarn - which also means there will be more patterns discovered and written.

Today's project is completely reversible - so yaay!

Materials used : Today I’ve used ~ 175 gms unbranded 12-ply acrylic with a 6 mm crochet hook ; embroidery needle
For Indians : The yarn I’ve used is similar in thickness to our Vardhaman acrylic yarn or Laura knitting cotton .
You could use Anchor , Red rose , 4-ply knitting cotton , or unbranded knitting cotton or White Rose or bamboo knitting cotton , Milk cotton ; Silk yarns as well as Oswal acrylic yarns ; Baby soft acrylic yarn , Ganga Spectrum as well
General yarn info : The yarn used today is not specific to this pattern.
You can use any yarn with a suitable hook to make this project to any size.
International yarns : Among the international yarns I have used in this thickness, I’d suggest Lily Sugar n' Cream cotton yarn, Caron Simply Soft , Bernat Softee chunky.
but I think you could also use Aunt Lydia Cotton 10, Aunt Lydia Bamboo-Viscose 10, DMC Petra, Sullivans knitting cotton (Australia), Milford Soft, Hilaza Rustica Eclat , Alize cotton yarn and Alize bamboo yarn
You may just have to tweak the gauge a bit.

Do note though that I am writing this pattern for a start of 27 sts.
I have multiples, just in case you have worked the wicker or basket weave stitch before - in which case you will know what to do to get the pattern.
Start Row 1 : with 27 fdc / 9" (or the width you want for your scarf / cowl in multiples of 3 ). Turn
For our pattern we use post stitches
Double Crochet : dc : yo, insert hk into st ; yo (3 lps on hk);
[yo, draw through 2 lps] twice. One dc made.

bpdc around the next 2 sts ;
*fpdc around the next 3 sts ; bpdc around the next 3 sts* ;
rep *to* till the last st ;
dc in the last st. Turn.
Now her's where this gets a bit tricky.
IF you have started with 27 sts, then you follow this pattern through.
IF you have NOT started with 27, but with multiples of 3, then you may have a different ending (I ended with bpdc and dc for the last 3 sts)
Like I said at the start, if you have worked the basket weave stitch before, you know what we are doing here.
Row 2 : dc in the 1st st ;
fpdc around the next 2 sts ;
*bpdc around the next 3 sts ; fpdc around the next 3 sts* ;
rep *to* till the last st ;
dc in the last st. Turn.
Rows 3 - 4 : Rep Row 1.
Row 5 : Rep Row 2.
Row 6 : Rep Row 1.
And just like that, we’ve got our basket weave pattern done.
Rows 7 - 12 : dc in the 1st st and in each st till end.
.. and that's our pattern from Rows 1 - 12.
Now here's where you can tweak it a bit. Add more plain dc rows in between the basket weave pattern - and just a small change like that and you'll have a different looking end result.
If you are making a cowl, then end with Row 12
If you are making a scarf, then end with Row 6
Continue working the pattern till you get the length you want for your scarf or beanie.
I worked till I had about 45" in length. I then joined the two ends to make a cowl.
