I have been given a third bag of yarn and requested to make beanies & / or scarves for the homeless. I'm hoping that there's going to be even more yarn - which also means there will be more patterns discovered and written.

Today's project is completely reversible - so yaay!

Materials used : Today I’ve used ~ 150 gms of unbranded 12-ply acrylic with a 6.5 mm crochet hook ; embroidery needle ; fabric glue to seal ends ; crochet stitch markers

For Indians : The yarn I’ve used is similar in thickness to about 2 strands of our Vardhaman / Oswal acrylic yarns or Laura knitting cotton .

You could use Anchor , Red rose , 4-ply knitting cotton , or unbranded knitting cotton or White Rose or bamboo knitting cotton , Milk cotton ; Silk yarns ; Baby soft acrylic yarn , Ganga Spectrum as well

General yarn info : The yarn used today is not specific to this pattern.

You can use any yarn with a suitable hook to make this project to any size.

Using chunky yarn just means that the project zooms ahead that much faster.

So if you want to make your thin yarn into a thicker yarn, just use 2 - 3 strands together.

International yarns : Among the international yarns I have used in this thickness, I’d suggest Lily Sugar n' Cream cotton yarn, Caron Simply Soft , Bernat Softee chunky.

but I think you could also use Aunt Lydia Cotton 10, Aunt Lydia Bamboo-Viscose 10, DMC Petra, Sullivans knitting cotton (Australia), Milford Soft, Hilaza Rustica Eclat , Alize cotton yarn and Alize bamboo yarn

You may just have to use a few strands together.

Difficulty level : Easy to Intermediate.

Abbreviations used :

sc : single crochet hdc : Half Double crochet

ch : chain ch-sp : chain space

sp : space rep : Repeat

hk : hook lp (s) : loop(s)

yo : yarn over sl-st : slip stitch

Please note that I start all my rounds with a ch 1 turning chain for ease.

Foundation half double crochet (fhdc) : This is an easy way to start a row of hdc without the starting chain row.

Start Row 1 : with an odd / uneven number of fhdc or foundation half double crochet that you want for the width of your scarf / cowl. Turn.

I started with 31 fhdc.

rep till the last ch-sp ; sc in the last st. Turn

Row 4 : sc in the 1st st ;

(ch 1, sk the next st ; sc in the next ch-sp) ;

rep till the 2nd last sc ;

sk 2nd last sc, sc in the last st. Turn

Rows 5 - 10 : Rep Rows 3 & 4

Row 11 : hdc in the 1st st ;

(hdc in the next ch-sp ; hdc in the next st) ;

rep (to) till end. Turn (31 sts)

Now we will work the same Linen stitch, but using e-sc instead of sc

rep till the last ch-sp ;

e-sc in the last st. Turn

Row 14 : e-sc in the 1st st ;

(ch 1, sk the next st ; e-sc in the next ch-sp) ;

rep till the 2nd last st ;

sk 2nd last e-sc, e-sc in the last st. Turn

Rows 15 - 20 : Rep Rows 3 & 4

Row 21 : hdc in the 1st st ;

(hdc in the next ch-sp ; hdc in the next st) ;

rep (to) till end.

Turn (31 sts)

Rep Rows 3 - 21 for the length you want for your cowl, ending with Row 21 for a cowl

Fasten off and leave a tail for attachment.

Use one of the joining methods below to join the shorter (9") sides.

If you want to make this a wrap

Start Row 1 : with an odd / uneven number of fhdc or foundation half double crochet that you want for the width of your wrap. Turn.

I'd say 15 - 20" is the width I'd use for my wrap.

Rep Rows 3 - 21 for the length you want for your wrap, ending with Row 11 for a wrap

If you want to make this a scarf

Rep Rows 3 - 21 for the length you want for your scarf, ending with Row 11 for a scarf

Attach tassels to the end to make it a soft scarf.
