Materials used : Today I’ve used a little Anchor Pearl knitting cotton yarn with a 1.3 mm crochet hook
You also need a tic-tac hair clip or a hair barrette ; headband or rubber band ; or tic-tac clip ; fabric glue ; embroidery needle ; Mod Podge to stiffen motif

In general : Use any yarn with a suitable hook to make these projects. The finer the yarn, the tinier the project.
For Indians : You can use Red Rose knitting cotton or Red Rose metallic cotton as well

International yarns :  Among the international yarns I have used , I’d suggest Aunt Lydia Cotton 10, Aunt Lydia Bamboo-Viscose 10, DMC Petra, Sullivans knitting cotton (Australia), Milford Soft, Hilaza Rustica Eclat , Alize cotton yarn and Alize bamboo yarn.

Abbreviations used :
ch : chain              ch-sp : chain space

You can use this project as a hanging toy ornament off your tree, or make it something you can wear on your head.
All you need to do is attach a length of chain off one side and it’s a hanging ornament for your tree.

If you attach it to a rubber band or a bob-pin, then you get a neat hair clip.  Have fun.

I was inspired by this lovely photograph and decided this was one I’d like to make.  I do not know if there is a pattern for this somewhere – I have not checked.  These are my notes as I make my project.

Start Round 1 : with a magic circle and work 4 dc into that magic circle ;
(ch 5, 4 dc into the magic circle) ;
rep (to) once again ;
ch 5 and join with a sl-st to the 1st dc.

Round 2 : sl-st into the 1st ch-5 sp ;
(4 dc ; ch 5, 4 dc) in the 1st ch-5 sp ;
rep (to) in the same 1st ch-5 sp ;
*ch 1, rep (to) once in the next ch-5 sp ;
rep (to) in the same ch-5 sp* ;
rep *to* once more ;
ch 1 and join with a sl-st to the 1st st.

Round 3 : sc in the 1st dc ;
hdc + dc in the next dc ;
dc + hdc in the next dc ; sc in the next dc ;
*(2 hdc ; 3 dc ; 2 hdc) all in the next ch-5 sp ;
[sc in the next dc ; hdc + dc in the next dc ;
dc + hdc in the next dc ;
sc in the next dc] ;
{2 sc in the next ch-1 sp} ;
rep [to] once over the next 4 dc ;
rep (to) once in the next ch-5 sp ;
sc in the next 4 dc ;
<ch 2, 3 dc , ch 2> all in the next ch-1 sp ;
sc in the next 4 dc ;
rep (to) once in the next ch-5 sp ;
rep [to] once over the next 4 dc ;
rep {to} once ;
and join with a sl-st to the 1st st.

Fasten off and weave in ends.

Finishing : Now what would you like to make this Xmas tree into?
A hair clip or a tree hanging ornament?

Hair clip ideas : A little bling is good.. always.. so using an embroidery needle, I have sewn on some shiny stuff onto my lil tree.  I then attached on the tic tac clip to the back of the tree.  When attaching the clip, remember that you need to figure how you want your tree to look – and attach the clip at the back accordingly.. yes, yes, I am sure you thought of that one anyway. ;)

Similarly, you can attach on a rubber band across the back, such that your lil girl can tie up her pony tail with this and have a cute hanging tree for the festive season.

Ornament idea : Re-attach your green yarn to the top of the tree and run a chain of 3-4” length, Fold your chain down and see if it is long enough to hang off the tree.  If it is, then sl-st into the top of the 1st st again. Fasten off and weave in ends.
If this is a tree ornament, you definitely need bling – so go ahead and go a lil crazy decorating this cute lil tree before it goes onto your big fresh tree.
