DRESSY SOAP DISPENSER COVER

If you have been following my blogs, you’ll know that I have made several dressy soap dish dispenser covers – but you’ll also know that I try to keep each one just a little different.  Today’s pattern follows a child’s dress pattern – in a way.. and you can adapt it for a doll too.
Come along, and let’s see what this is all about.

Thank you for joining me.

In case you have just joined me, know that you can access all of my earlier creations by checking under ‘categories’ on the right hand side of this blog under “Labels”.  Then, for your convenience, follow me here or on Facebook, You Tube, Pinterest, Twitter or Instagram.

Instruction information
Please note that I start all rows with a ch 1 turning chain for ease.
Please also check the top of this blog for neat video tutorials of all stitches used in today’s pattern sheet.  For your convenience, there are tutorials just above the rows that you will need the stitches.
Please go through the full instruction sheet before you start, so you get an idea of what we’re doing.  There is an option for the ending which you may miss out on if you do not read through.  Cheers.

Foundation Single Crochet : fsc : To refresh your skill on the fsc, please view this video https://youtu.be/mcT85fwh4mA

Start Round 1 : with a 16 fsc.
Join with a sl-st to the 1st st.

Double Crochet : dc : yo, insert hk into st ; yo (3 lps on hk);
[yo, draw through 2 lps] twice.  One dc made.
Check out the video at https://youtu.be/xdnjB27zpYo

Chainless start for Double Crochet : I dislike the ch-2 / ch – 3 start, and this is what I do to start my row of dc.
Check out the video at https://youtu.be/wskv3iTjRx0

Round 2 : dc in the 1st 3 fsc ;
(2 dc ; ch 1, 2 dc) all in the next 2 fsc ;
dc in the next 6 fsc ;
rep (to) in the next 2 fsc ;
dc in the last 3 fsc.
Join with a sl-st to the 1st st.

We now have four distinct corners.
Shell stitch : (2 dc ; ch 1, 2 dc)

Round 3 : dc in 1st dc and in each dc till the corner ch-sp ;
*Shell st in the ch-1 corner sp ;
dc in each dc till the next ch-1 corner sp* ;
rep *to* all around.
Join with a sl-st to the 1st st.

In the following round, we will join the front and back of our little dress.
So we will join at the corner ch-sps and create a tiny armhole with a distinct front and back to our creation.
We will work a “V”-st in the following round.

Our “V”-st is (dc ; ch 1, dc) all in the same st.

Round 4 : “V”-st in 1st dc ;
(sk the next dc, “V”-st in the next dc) ;
*rep (to) till the next ch-1 sp ;
[dc in the 1st ch-1 corner sp ;
ch 1, dc in the next ch-1 corner sp]* ;
rep *to* all around.
Join with a sl-st to the 1st st.

We have joined front and back, and have two armholes carved out.

Round 5 : “V”-st in 1st “V”-st and in each “V”-st all around.
Join with a sl-st to the 1st st.

Round 6 : Shell st in 1st “V”-st and in each “V”-st all around.
Join with a sl-st to the 1st st.

Rounds 7 - 10 : Shell st in 1st Shell st and in each Shell st all around.
Join with a sl-st to the 1st st.

Check the length on your soap dispenser and see if you want it longer.
If you do, continue Round 7 till you have the length you want.
Remember we have one final round, so calculate the length accordingly.

Round 11 : sl-st into the 1st ch-sp ;
5 dc in same ch-3 sp ;
*sk next 2 dc, sc in the sp between the Shell sts ;
sk next 2 dc, 5 dc in the next ch-sp* ;
rep *to* all around and join with a sl-st to the 1st st.
Fasten off and weave in ends.

In this final round, we could also work a picot stitch.
If you decide to do that, here’s Optional Round 11.

How to work a picot stitch : Traditionally for a ch-3 picot, you work (ch 3, sl-st in 3rd ch from hook).  For a ch-5 picot, you will do (ch 5, sl-st in 5th ch from hook).
Here’s a great video https://youtu.be/8s3zVaBcn4s
Optional Round 11 : sl-st into the 1st ch-sp ;
(3 dc + picot + 2 dc in same ch-3 sp) ;
*sk next 2 dc, sc + picot + sl-st in the sp between the Shell sts ;
sk next 2 dc, rep (to) in the next ch-sp* ;
rep *to* all around and join with a sl-st to the 1st st.
Fasten off and weave in ends.

Finishing :
We just need to cinch the waist now. For that you could choose the simpler option of threading through a satin ribbon or you could work a row of ch or fsc that will go around the base of the yoke and allow you to tie a bow.
Just work length of ch or fsc that’s long enough for that and then thread it through the last row of dc (i.e. Round 3) or the “V”-st round (Round 4).
