24th CONSONANT of the HINDI ALPHABET

going through the consonants of the Hindi alphabet.

Materials used : Today I’ve used local unbranded knitting cotton yarn with a 3.5 mm crochet hook ; fabric glue to seal ends ; stitch markers ; embroidery needle ; sewing needle ; Mod Podge to stiffen motif
For Indians : You could use Anchor , Red rose ; 4-ply knitting cotton , or unbranded knitting cotton or White Rose or bamboo knitting cotton , Milk cotton ; Silk yarns as well
General yarn info : The yarn used today is not specific to this pattern.
You can use any yarn with a suitable hook to make this project to any size.
International yarns : Among the international yarns I have used in this thickness, I’d suggest Aunt Lydia Cotton 10, Aunt Lydia Bamboo-Viscose 10, DMC Petra, Sullivans knitting cotton (Australia), Milford Soft, Hilaza Rustica Eclat , Alize cotton yarn and Alize bamboo yarn , Lily Sugar n' Cream cotton yarn
Difficulty level : Intermediate

Please note
that I start all rows with a ch 1 turning chain for ease.
Please

Part 1 :
Start Row 1 :
with 12 fsc. Turn.
Row 2 :
sc in all 12 sts. Turn.
Row 3 :
sc in all 12 sts ; ch 4. Turn.
Row 4 :
sc in the 2nd ch from hk, sc in the next 2 ch ;
sc in the next 3 sts ; 2 fsc. Turn.
Rows 5 & 6 :
sc in all 8 sts. Turn.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Weave in ends.
Part 2 :
In this part we will work on the
other half of our “Bh” from the top down.
Start Row 1 :
with 3 fsc. Turn.
Row 2 :
sc in the 1st st ; hdc in the next st ; dc in the last st. Turn.
Row 3 :
dc in the 1st st ; hdc in the next st ; sc in the last st. Turn.
Row 4 : sk 1st st ; sc + hdc in the next
st ; dc in the last st. Turn.
Row 5 : sk 1st st ; dc + hdc in the next
st ; sc in the last st. Turn.
Rows 6 – 13 : Rep Rows 4 & 5.
Row 14 :
sc in the 1st st ; hdc in the next st ; dc in the last st. Turn.
Place a marker here for attachment
later or attach Row 1 here now.
This forms the top curled bit for
our “Bh”
Row 15 :
dc in the 1st st ; hdc in the next st ; sc in the last st. Turn.
Rows 16 - 20 :
sc in the all 3 sts. Turn.
Row 21 :
dc in the 1st st ; hdc in the next st ; sc in the last st. Turn.
Row 22 : ch 1, sk 1st st ; sc + hdc in the
next st ; dc in the last st. Turn.
Row 23 : ch 1, sk 1st st ; dc + hdc in the
next st ; sc in the last st. Turn.
Rows 24 – 27 : Rep Rows 22 & 23.
Single crochet 3-tog : sc
3-tog : Here is an easy
video tutorial at
Row 28 : sc 3-tog over all 3 sts.
Fasten off and leave a tail for
attachment.
Skip 2 sts from the top and attach
Row 13 to Row 3.
Weave in ends.
Part 2 :
In this final part we attach the two
parts we have made.
So re-attach your yarn on the 4th st (from top) of the straight part
of our “Bh” from Part 1. (so that rod on the far right) Got it?
Start Row 1 :
sc in the same the 4th st and in the next 2 sts. Turn.
Rows 2 - 4 :
sc in all 3 sts. Turn.
Row 5 : sc in all 3
sts.
Fasten off and leave a tail for
attachment.
Attach to the bottom end of Part 2.
Weave in ends.
Block as needed per yarn
instructions.
How did I stiffen my alphabets?
For all my alphabets (whether English or Devnagari), I use Mod Podge (1 MP : 2 water) - so if doing a large batch its table spoons with the proportion or tea spoon depending on quantity needed.
For Indians : Fevicol or Fevicryl Fabric glue in similar proportions works as well.
