32nd CONSONANT of the HINDI ALPHABET

going through the consonants of the Hindi alphabet.

Materials used : Today I’ve used local unbranded knitting cotton yarn with a 3.5 mm crochet hook ; fabric glue to seal ends ; stitch markers ; embroidery needle ; sewing needle ; Mod Podge to stiffen motif
For Indians : You could use Anchor , Red rose ; 4-ply knitting cotton , or unbranded knitting cotton or White Rose or bamboo knitting cotton , Milk cotton ; Silk yarns as well
General yarn info : The yarn used today is not specific to this pattern.
You can use any yarn with a suitable hook to make this project to any size.
International yarns : Among the international yarns I have used in this thickness, I’d suggest Aunt Lydia Cotton 10, Aunt Lydia Bamboo-Viscose 10, DMC Petra, Sullivans knitting cotton (Australia), Milford Soft, Hilaza Rustica Eclat , Alize cotton yarn and Alize bamboo yarn , Lily Sugar n' Cream cotton yarn
Difficulty level : Intermediate
You must know how to work the
fsc.

Instruction information
Please note that I start all rows
with a ch 1 turning chain for ease.
Please also check the top of this
blog for neat video tutorials of all stitches used in today’s pattern sheet.
Part 1 :
Start Row 1 :
with 3 fsc. Turn.
Rows 2 - 4 : sc in all 3
sts. Turn.
Row 5 :
sk the 1st st ; sc + hdc in the next st ; dc in the last st. Turn.
Row 6 : sk 1st st ; dc + hdc in the next
st ; sc in the last st. Turn.
Row 7 : sk 1st st ; sc + hdc in the next
st ; dc in the last st. Turn.
We will now work the lower part of
the alphabet.
We will sl-st along the side and
work along the post of the stitches for the lower part of the alphabet.
The end we are working on has dc, so
we work 2 sts per dc. OK?
Row 8 : 2 sl-st along the post of the 1st
dc ;
1 sc and 1 hdc along the post of the
next dc ; 1 dc in the next st. Turn.
Row 9 : dc in the 1st st ; hdc in the next
st ; sc in the last st. Turn.
Row 10 : sc in the 1st st ; hdc in the next
st ; dc in the last st. Turn.
Rows 11 - 12 : sc in all 3 sts.
Fasten off. Weave in ends.
Part 2 :
Start Row 1 :
with 12 fsc. Turn.
Row 2 :
sc in all 12 sts. Turn.
Row 3 :
sc in all 12 sts ; ch 4. Turn.
Row 4 :
sc in the 2nd ch from hk, sc in the next 2 ch ;
sc in the next 3 sts ; 8 fsc. Turn.
Rows 5 & 6 :
sc in all 14 sts. Turn.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Part 3 :
In this last part we need to work
that small joining bar – to join Parts 1 & 2.
We will work this on the long 12 fsc
strip that we have just made.
So keeping your Part 2 in such a way
that the smaller top end is away from you and the longer one is facing in front
of you like the English alphabet “L”, re-attach your yarn on the 5th
st from the top.
Start Row 1 :
sc in the same 5th st and the next 2 sts.. Turn.
Rows 2 - 4 :
sc in all 3 sts. Turn.
Fasten off and leave a tail for
attachment.
Attach this little bar in the crook
of Part 1 ; i.e. just where the alphabet curves downwards – so one st on the
top part, one in the centre and one in the downward curve.
To attach the top part of the “S”,
skip 3 sts between the Part 2 12 fsc strip and then attach.
Block as needed per yarn
instructions.
How did I stiffen my alphabets?
For all my alphabets (whether English or Devnagari), I use Mod Podge (1 MP : 2 water) - so if doing a large batch its table spoons with the proportion or tea spoon depending on quantity needed.
For Indians : Fevicol or Fevicryl Fabric glue in similar proportions works as well.
