Materials used : Today I’ve used some polyester silk purse yarn with a 4 mm crochet hook and a ring.  We need two colors of yarn today.  If making this a yin yang, you need black and white or grey
If you need beads etc check here or here or here

General yarn info : The yarn used today is not specific to this pattern.
You can use any cotton yarn with a suitable hook to make this project to any size.

Stitches used : Using US terminology
Starting slip knot : Here’s how you start with a slip knot.  https://youtu.be/lJcqsVcs8cw

Starting slip knot 1 or the Sloppy Slip knot : This is a neat new way to start your work without a slip knot.  https://youtu.be/YfC7KmGpifs

Magic circle : To refresh your skill, please view this easy video https://youtu.be/ISC39yOqWro

Double Crochet : dc : yo, insert hk into st ; yo (3 lps on hk);

Chainless start for Double Crochet : I dislike the ch-2 / ch – 3 start, and this is what I do to start my row of dc.

Instruction information Using U.S terminology
Please note that I start all rows with a ch 1 turning chain for ease.

Please go through the full instruction sheet before you start, so you get an idea of what we’re doing.  Cheers.

Today’s creation has several parts and loads of ideas for creativity.
First we make the flower – and for that we have a video tutorial for that.
Then we need to work on the ring (that holds the towel – or through which the towel will go) and finally we need to work on the hanging cord that will hold your towel ring on the hook off the wall.

Part 1 : The Yin Yang creation
For today’s Yin Yang like floral creation, please visit https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3jAN-Z2qyKw

Part 2 : Covering the ring or bangle
Just like we did in yesterday’s creation, we need to run a round of sc all around the ring / bangle first.  I’ve attached my Yin Yan / flower motif to the top of the ring and I’ve chosen to work the sc in one of the colors I’ve used for the yin yang creation. Oh, I’ve used a sparkly black and silver combination of colors for my creation today.
I used a bangle here instead of a readymade ring.
I chose to work the grey colored yarn all around.
So let’s do this first.
To cover the ring, you start with a slip knot around the ring and then work sc all around.

Part 2A : In case you do not wish to add a round of loops around the bangle, then there is no stitch count when you cover the bangle.  Just use your yarn and work as many sc as needed to cover the ring.
How do you work sc? Like you usually do but you work around the bangle and then grab your yarn to work the sc.

Single Crochet : Sc : yo, insert hk into st ; yo (2 lps on hk); yo, draw through both lps.  One sc made.  Check out the video at https://youtu.be/ghACqBpA-3k

First stitch for Single Crochet : This is how I like to start my row of sc. Check out the video at https://youtu.be/6pVYRfsf4_M

Part 2 B : In case you want to add a round of loops around the bangle, then work in multiples of 3 when you cover the bangle.  You will still work as many sc as needed to cover the ring.

What is a slip stitch : Here is a neat video tutorial at https://youtu.be/weB3QNbA8Iw

What is a chain stitch ? Here is an easy video tutorial https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pXx5ukBjKkY

For the loop pattern :
sc in the 1st sc ;
(ch 3, sk next st, sc in the next st) ;
rep (to) all around ;
join to the 1st st with a sl-st

Now depending on the yarn you are using, these loops may become too close together and not look as neat.  In that case, opt to work just 5 – 6 reps of (to) for the top portion and then work sl-st for the lower portion [which will be covered by the towel anyway].  You then need to count the number of stitches you’ve used for your loops and then place a marker on the other side of your ring to start loops for that side.

Calculation clarification 1 : (IF you are only covering part of the ring)
So in case you have worked 5 loops, you have used 15 sts, right?
So for the other side, please place your marker on the 18th st from the start.
You will work your 5 loops for the second side, and in the last set, you will work the large loop (I’ve worked 45 chain) that will allow you to hang this off the hook on the wall.  You will finish by joining to the 1st st with a sl-st as always.

So what does this mean? Basically, you just add 3 sts to the count. So whatever number of stitches you’ve used for the loops on one side , add 3 sts for the second side and work the longer loop on the last set of stitches.

Calculation clarification 2 : (IF you are covering the whole ring)
Work your pattern all the way around, till the last 2 sc, Work a longer loop for the last chain and join to the 1st st with a sl-st.

Feeling a bit more creative?  Add a picot instead of a loop.
To add a picot work :
sc in the 1st st ;
(ch 1 + picot + ch 1, sk next st and sc in the next st) ;
rep (to) all around ;
join to the 1st st with a sl-st.

How to work a picot stitch :
 Traditionally for a ch-3 picot, you work (ch 3, sl-st in 3rd ch from hook).  For a ch-5 picot, you will do (ch 5, sl-st in 5th ch from hook).

Part 3 : Putting it all together
Once done with the Yin yang flower and ring (with or without the loops / picot), all you need to do is convert this into a ring holder.

We need to attach our cute little Yin Yang flower motif to the bangle or ring that you will use to pass the towel through.
I have chosen to attach my flower in the centre.
Just hold the motif and see which point works.
Then using an embroidery needle, I have secured my motif to the ring.

Like with yesterday’s floral creation, you could choose to hold the flower to one side of the ring on top as well.

Before you fasten off, please hold your creation up with the ring or centre of chain and see that it holds.

Please use the photograph as a guide.

Secure your towel holder onto the wall and hang your towel through and smile.  This is a beautiful project – one that can not only be made in several colors, but using any yarn and any hook that’s suitable for that yarn.
Go ahead and make a few to gift to friends.  Remember to share the photos with me so I can share them on my Facebook page.
