28th CONSONANT of the HINDI ALPHABET

Materials used : Today I’ve used local unbranded knitting cotton yarn with a 3.5 mm crochet hook ; fabric glue to seal ends ; stitch markers ; embroidery needle ; sewing needle ; Mod Podge to stiffen motif
For Indians : You could use Anchor , Red rose ; 4-ply knitting cotton , or unbranded knitting cotton or White Rose or bamboo knitting cotton , Milk cotton ; Silk yarns as well
General yarn info : The yarn used today is not specific to this pattern.
You can use any yarn with a suitable hook to make this project to any size.
International yarns : Among the international yarns I have used in this thickness, I’d suggest Aunt Lydia Cotton 10, Aunt Lydia Bamboo-Viscose 10, DMC Petra, Sullivans knitting cotton (Australia), Milford Soft, Hilaza Rustica Eclat , Alize cotton yarn and Alize bamboo yarn , Lily Sugar n' Cream cotton yarn

US terminology
Please note
that I start all rows with a ch 1 turning chain for ease.
Please
also check the top of this blog for neat video tutorials of all stitches used
in today’s pattern sheet.
Part 1 :
Start :
with 12 fsc. Turn.
Row 2 :
sc in the 1st st and in each st till end. Turn.
Row 3 :
sc in all 12 sts ; ch 13. Turn.
Row 4 :
sc in the 2nd ch from hk and in the next 11 ch ;
sc in the next 3 sts ; 2 fsc. Turn.
Rows 5 - 6 :
sc in all 17 sts. Turn.
Fasten off.
Part 2 :
We need to work on the lower part of
the alphabet.
Count off 4 sts from the
top bar of the alphabet and re-attach your yarn in the 4th st.
I’m using my chain-less standing
starting dc.

Start Row 1 :
dc in the same 4th st ;
hdc in the next st ; sc in the next st. Turn.
Row 2 :
sc in the 1st st ;
hdc in the next st ; dc in the last st. Turn.
Row 3 :
dc in the 1st st ;
hdc in the next st ; sc in the last st. Turn.
Row 4 :
Rep Row 3.
We will now work along the post of
the stitches along the side for the lower part of our “L”.
Remember that those post stitches
are dc, so 2 sts per dc. OK?
Row 5 :
2 sl-st in the post of the 1st st ;
dc + hdc in the post of the next st
; sc in the last st. Turn.
Row 6 :
sc in the 1st st ; hdc in the next st ;
dc in the last st. Turn.
Row 7 :
ch 1, sk the 1st st , sc + hdc in the next st ;
dc in the last
st. Turn.
Row 8 :
ch 1, sk the 1st st , dc + hdc in the next st ;
sc in the last
st. Turn.
Rows 9 – 10 :
Rep Rows 7 – 8
Row 11 :
ch 1, sk the 1st st , sc + hdc in the next st ;
dc in the last
st. Turn.
Rows 12 – 13 :
sc in all 3 sts.
Fasten off. Weave in ends.
Block as needed per yarn
instructions.
How did I stiffen my alphabets?
For all my alphabets (whether English or Devnagari), I use Mod Podge (1 MP : 2 water) - so if doing a large batch its table spoons with the proportion or tea spoon depending on quantity needed.
For Indians : Fevicol or Fevicryl Fabric glue in similar proportions works as well.
