Materials used : Today I’ve used our lovely Oswal 4-ply acrylic yarn with a 3.5 mm crochet hook
For Indians : You could use Anchor , Red ros ; Red rose metallic or  unbranded  knitting cotton as well as Vardhaman acrylic yarns

General yarn info : The yarn used today is not specific to this pattern.
You can use any yarn with a suitable hook to make this project to any size.

International yarns :  Among the international yarns I have used in this thickness, I’d suggest Aunt Lydia Cotton 10, Aunt Lydia Bamboo-Viscose 10, DMC Petra, Sullivans knitting cotton (Australia), Milford Soft, Hilaza Rustica Eclat , Alize cotton yarn and Alize bamboo yarn.

Difficulty level : Easy

Stitches used :
Starting slip knot : Here’s how you start with a slip knot.  https://youtu.be/lJcqsVcs8cw

Starting slip knot 1 or the Sloppy Slip knot : This is a neat new way to start your work without a slip knot.  https://youtu.be/YfC7KmGpifs

Abbreviations used :
sc : single crochet              dc : Double crochet
ch : chain                           ch-sp : chain space
sp : space                          rep : Repeat
hk : hook                            lp (s) : loop(s)
yo : yarn over                     sl-st : slip stitch

Instructions using U.S terminology
Please note that I start all my rows with a ch 1, turning chain for ease.
Please check the top of this blog for easy video tutorials on all stitches used in today's pattern.  For your convenience there video tutorials through the blog too
Please read through all my notes before you pick up your hook, so you know just where we're heading in our pattern.
In my patterns I work with the principle of stitch count and body measurement.
This means that you need to work the stitch count in pattern, till you get the measurement (length and/or width) that you need for your project.

For the Panda, you’ll need white and black yarn.
Oh, this not only makes a cute motif, but will also make a lovely little bag for your lil girl.  Make two halves of the first white oval – the front half will get all the face bits and the back half can stay white for the back of the panda head.  Attach the lining, zipper and handles and you have a swinging bag J

For our motif, we will start with a fsc chain and then work till the end of the chain, and loop around the back and work under the chain for our first row / round. This gives us the oval shape we need for our Panda face.

Foundation Single Crochet : fsc : To refresh your skill on the fsc, please view this video https://youtu.be/mcT85fwh4mA

Start Row 1 : (Using white yarn) : with 11 fsc.  Turn.

Half Double Crochet : Hdc :  yo, insert hk into st ; yo (3 lps on hk) ;

Fasten off and leave a tail for attachment.

Ears :   (Make two)

Magic circle : To refresh your skill, please view this easy video https://youtu.be/ISC39yOqWro

What is a slip stitch : Here is a neat video tutorial at https://youtu.be/weB3QNbA8Iw

Start Round 1 : (Using black yarn) :
with a magic circle and 12 hdc in it.
Join with a sl-st to the 1st st.

Round 2 :  hdc in the 1st hdc ; 2 hdc in the next hdc ;
(hdc in the next hdc ; 2 hdc in the next hdc) ;
rep (to) all around ;
Join with a sl-st to the 1st st.
Fasten off and leave a tail for attachment.

Black eye patch  (Make two)
Start : (Using black yarn) : with ch 5 ; sc in the 2nd ch from hk ; hdc in the next ch ; 7 dc in the last ch ;
Turn ; hdc in the next ch ; sc in the last ch and join to the 1st st.
Fasten off and leave a tail for attachment.

Nose :   (Make one)
What is a chain stitch ? Here is an easy video tutorial https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pXx5ukBjKkY

Start : (Using black yarn) : with a magic circle and work all these sts in it :
(ch 2, 3 hdc ;
ch 2, sl-st all in the same magic circle.
Pull lightly to close.
Fasten off and leave a tail for attachment.

Finishing :
Using the photos as a guide, first attach the nose in the middle – then attach the two black eye patches at a slight angle.  The ears are attached on top.
Now using your embroidery needle and black yarn, embroider in the tiny little mouth for your cute panda.

The eye of the panda needs to be black and beady – so you either attach a small button or a black pearl. Please ensure that you attach this really securely and glue it down as well – beads and babies !! a worrisome combination!!

Have fun – create something unique.
