GRANNY RIPPLE AFGHAN FOR A BABY BOY

Today we’re working on an afghan that works with the famous Chevron stitch and uses two simple different stitches, cleverly used to give this brilliant pattern.

Chevrons have an advanced skill level.  The beauty of the chevron pattern is usually shown out better with change(s) of colour – so at least one change of colour is advisable.

Materials used : Today I’ve used ~ 1 kg of our local Indian Oswal Cashmilon 4-ply acrylic with a 4 mm crochet hook
For Non-Indians : I’d say you can use any yarn with a suitable hook to make this lovely project.

Instructions : Using U.S terminology

What I loved about this blanket is the simplicity – it’s a basic granny square stitch.. and it goes up and down chevron-wise and creates ripples.. but the best part is that I worked two rows per colour, so I had larger bands and only one side of yarns to hide and fasten off.

Border :

With a chevron, one does not need to work a border.  However, just to get all the knots and weave-ins of the multi-colours neatly hidden, I worked a row of hdc down both the sides.
Remember when working on the vertical bar of the dc, you will work 2 sts.
The other thing that I’d advise is that you count the number of rows you have worked, and ensure that you have that many stitches when you are working down the sides.

Fasten off and weave in ends.
Block as per yarn instructions.
