Materials used : Today I’ve used a 4-ply acrylic babysoft yarn with a 4 mm crochet hook.

General yarn info : The yarn used today is not specific to this pattern.
You can use any yarn with a suitable hook to make this project to any size.

Instructions using U.S terminology

With this pattern, you can make your blanket to any size.  The size of the little unicorn toy is fixed (well, there are two size options), but for blanket, check the link below and see what suits you.

So for project today, I started with a basic pattern for the lovey and then attached the cute unicorn in the centre.

For the little blanket, it’s the usual granny square pattern.

Start Round 1 : with a magic circle and work the following sts in it : 3 dc ; (ch 1 ; 3 dc) ; rep (to) 3 times ;
ch 1 and join with a sl-st to the 1st st.

In case you find the magic circle difficult, start with  ch 4, and join to make a circle.  Then work the sts as given above.
(four 3-dc sets and four ch-1 sps)

Round 2 : sl-st into the 1st ch-1 sp ;
3 dc in the same 1st ch-1 sp ;
(ch 1, 3 dc ; ch 1, 3 dc) all in the corner ch-1 sp ;
*[ch 1, 3 dc in the next ch-1 sp] ;
rep (to) in the next corner ch-1 sp* ;
rep *to* all around
and join with a sl-st to the 1st dc.

This is the basic granny square pattern.
So in all the ch-1 sps between corners, you will work 3 dc and in each corner ch-1 sp, you will work two sets of 3 dc, separated by a ch-1 sp.  Got it?

You will continue this all around till you get the square to the size you desire.

I have worked a small cute border all around for the last round.

Border Round : sl-st into the 1st ch-1 sp ;
5 dc in the same ch-1 sp ;
(sk next dc, sc in the next dc ;
sk next dc , 5 dc in the next ch-1 sp) ;
rep (to) all around
and join with a sl-st to the 1st st.

Note : You will work this even in the corners – just once every corner, as you only have one ch-1 sp in each corner.  So you get an even 5-dc  shelled border all around.  Cute huh?
