EASY FLOWER MOTIF 25

This is a flower that I have made several times, and I think I like it so much that I have just been playing with the stitches with every creation.
With this pattern blog, you will get instructions for one flower in several different ways.

Thank you for joining me.

Please read through all my notes before you pick up your hook, so you know just where we're heading in our pattern.
In my patterns I work with the principle of stitch count and body measurement.
This means that you need to work the stitch count in pattern, till you get the measurement (length and/or width) that you need for your project.

For this first flower we start with a magic circle and then work a set of petals for the first round.  We then work in a second round of petals from under this first set.
Depending on how many petals you work, you get a different end product.

Magic circle : To refresh your skill, please view this easy video https://youtu.be/ISC39yOqWro

What is a slip stitch : Here is a neat video tutorial at https://youtu.be/weB3QNbA8Iw

What is a chain stitch ? Here is an easy video tutorial https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pXx5ukBjKkY

Double Crochet : dc : yo, insert hk into st ; yo (3 lps on hk);
[yo, draw through 2 lps] twice.  One dc made.
Check out the video at https://youtu.be/xdnjB27zpYo

Chainless start for Double Crochet : I dislike the ch-2 / ch – 3 start, and this is what I do to start my row of dc.
Check out the video at https://youtu.be/wskv3iTjRx0

Start Round 1 : (Colour 1) :
with a magic circle and work (ch 3, 2 dc, 3 dc and sl-st into the magic circle) ;
rep (to) 4 times in the magic circle.
Join with a sl-st to the 1st st.
Pull lightly to close the circle.  (5 petals)

If you want a slightly larger flower, work the rep (to) 5 times to get 6 petals.

To work the next set of petals, we need to work a framework first.  This frame work will be through a set of chains and sc.  You will work the sc in the space between the petals.  This is a long single crochet or a simple spike stitch.

Single Crochet : Sc : yo, insert hk into st ; yo (2 lps on hk); yo, draw through both lps.  One sc made.  Check out the video at https://youtu.be/ghACqBpA-3k

First stitch for Single Crochet : This is how I like to start my row of sc. Check out the video at https://youtu.be/6pVYRfsf4_M

Round 2 : (Colour 1) :
ch 1 (as a turning chain),
sc in the 1st space between the 1st two petals and into the centre hole of flower ;
[ch 3, sk next petal, sc in the next space between the next 2 petals] ;
rep [to] 3 times ;
ch 3, sk next petal,
and join with a sl-st to the 1st st.
(5 ch-3 sps)

Round 3 : (Colour 2) :
sl-st into the 1st ch-3 sp,
*[ch 3, 4 dc ; ch 3 and sl-st into the same ch-3 sp] ;
sl-st into the next ch-3 sp* ;
rep *to* all around
and join with a sl-st to the 1st st.

To get a larger flatter set of second petals, work [ch 3, 7 dc ; ch 3 and sl-st into the same ch-3 sp] in each ch-3 sp.

Isn’t this is a cute flower?  Bling it with a bead in the centre when you join it to the ear ring hook or hairclip and you’re done.

Simple accentuated flower
Now with the very same pattern, you can get a different end result.

Start Round 1 : (Colour 1) :
with a magic circle and work (ch 3, 2 dc ; 3 dc and sl-st into the magic circle) ;
rep (to) 4 times in the magic circle.

You will also use a different colour.  The chain spaces will go behind the petal and/or frame the petals but the largish sc that goes into the centre of the circle will differentiate each petal (like the African flower) and just this little tweak makes all the difference!

Round 2 : (Colour 2)
ch 1 (as a turning chain),
sc in the 1st space between the 1st two petals and into the centre hole of flower ;
[ch 3, sk next petal, sc in the next space between the next 2 petals] ;
rep [to] 3 times ;
ch 3, sk next petal,
and join with a sl-st to the 1st st.
(5 ch-3 sps)
