CAT MOTIF EAR RINGS

Today let’s work on a few cat motifs that I am hoping to successfully convert into jewelry.  Let’s see how many ways you can use it.

Materials used : I’ve used a combination of our lovely Indian Red ros knitting yarn (regular and metallic) ; as well as some Kamal kadai / kankri polyester silk embroidery floss yarn with a 1.75 mm crochet hook ; ready-made ear ring hooks (one pair minimum) ; beads ; connector rings ;glue to seal ends.
For Indians : You could use Anchor ; Red rose metallic or unbranded knitting cotton as well
General yarn info : The yarn used today is not specific to this pattern.
You can use any yarn with a suitable hook to make this project to any size.

International yarns :  Among the international yarns I have used in this thickness, I’d suggest Aunt Lydia Cotton 10, Aunt Lydia Bamboo-Viscose 10, DMC Petra, Sullivans knitting cotton (Australia), Milford Soft, Hilaza Rustica Eclat , Alize cotton yarn and Alize bamboo yarn.  The finer the yarn, the thinner each petal, and the cuter the end result – so go ahead and use any yarn with a suitable hook to make this project to any size.

In my patterns I work with the principle of stitch count and body measurement.
This means that you need to work the stitch count in pattern, till you get the measurement (length and/or width) that you need for your project.

To make the cat motif into an ear ring / pendant, after I finished the pattern per designer’s instructions, I attached the same last colour yarn into the centre of the cat’s head and then into the ring at the bottom of my ear ring hook.  That neatly attached my kitty cat to my ear ring hook.
The most important thing is to neatly weave in all ends.  Have fun making this in several colours.

Cat Pattern 2 : I found a photo but am unable to find a pattern for it. I do not claim this as my pattern – here are my notes as I work on my project.

In the following last round, we will work in the ears of our kitty cat as well as the lower half of the kitty face.
We start with the left ear, go around bottom of face and work the right ear.
Round 3 : [sc + hdc in the 1st st ; dc + trc + ch 3 picot + trc + dc all in the next st ;  hdc + sc + sl-st all in the next st] ;
(hdc in the next hdc ; 2 hdc  in the next hdc) ;
rep (to) 5 times ;
{sc + hdc in the next st ; dc + trc + ch 3 picot + trc + dc all in the next st ;  hdc + sc + sl-st all in the next st } ; sc in the last 6 sts.
Join with a sl-st to the 1st st.

Finishing :
1.        Eyes : either use a small button, or a ready made eye, or work in a small French knot embroidery stitch for the eyes.
2.      Nose and whiskers : Using an embroidery needle and black yarn, work a small “V” for the nose, and two short whiskers on either side of face.
3.      To make this into a pair of ear rings : Attach yarn to the back of the ears and attach that yarn to the hook of your ear ring.  A cute dangly cat face will dangle of your ears.
