I’ve been on a mad ear ring spree.. just making motifs and stringing them into ear ring hooks

With many of my earlier ear rings, while we worked with a hoop, we worked either inside it with a tiny doily .. with this one we have a creation just outside the hoop .. and its such an easy pattern.

Beads show off our creativity, so be adventurous.

Materials used : Today I’ve used our lovely Anchor pearl knitting cotton yarn with a 1.3 mm crochet hook ; ready-made ear ring hooks (one pair minimum) ; rings ; ; beads ; connector rings ; glue to seal ends.

For Indians : You could use Anchor , Red ros e or unbranded knitting cotton as well

General yarn info : The yarn used today is not specific to this pattern.

You can use any yarn with a suitable hook to make this project to any size.

For this project, the finer the yarn, the thinner each petal, and the cuter the end result

International yarns : Among the international yarns I have used in this thickness, I’d suggest Aunt Lydia Cotton 10, Aunt Lydia Bamboo-Viscose 10, DMC Petra, Sullivans knitting cotton (Australia), Milford Soft, Hilaza Rustica Eclat , Alize cotton yarn and Alize bamboo yarn.

Difficulty level : Easy to Intermediate

Instructions using U.S terminology

Please note that I start all my rows with a ch 1, turning chain for ease.

Please read through all my notes before you pick up your hook, so you know just where we're heading in our pattern.

In my patterns I work with the principle of stitch count and body measurement.

This means that you need to work the stitch count in pattern, till you get the measurement (length and/or width) that you need for your project.

For this easy dangling ear ring pattern, basically we are going to work a round of sc or hdc around a small centre hoop and then have dangling bits coming off that. The beauty of all this lies in neatness and evenness of work, great yarn and lovely beads.

This is not a traditional write up – it’s just going to be an informative blog. I was inspired by this photograph.

SO take any small hoop that you have and work as many sc or hdc as you want all around, ensuring that you neatly and totally cover the hoop. This hoop is the top bit of our ear ring.

You can work an additional round of sc or hdc – to widen the hoop.

Then basically you need to make the dangly bits – so I started with a chain of 10 and ended with a wooden bead at the end. I then added ch 5 for each additional row I made (so ch 15, ch 20...)– till I thought I had several dangly bits ;)

The onus in this as I said before is neatness – there are a lot of ends to tie down and hide away.

Once done, attach the ear ring hook and your lovely easy peasy dangling ear ring is ready to show off.. one hours work and you’ve got something new to wear with your evening outfit.. howzatt??
