There are so many ideas out there, in the
wonderful world wide web, and this one is quite a treasure. This little rose
has so multiple uses. I can already see
it being used as a gift wrapping topper, and a bracelet among other things.. so
let’s see where your originality and creativity take you.
General yarn info : The yarn used today is not specific to this pattern.
You can use any yarn with a suitable hook to make this project to any size.
International yarns : Among the international yarns I have used, I’d suggest Aunt Lydia Cotton 10, Aunt Lydia Bamboo-Viscose 10, DMC Petra, Sullivans knitting cotton (Australia), Milford Soft, Hilaza Rustica Eclat , Alize cotton yarn and Alize bamboo yarn.
Abbreviations used : (Using U.S terminology)
lp(s) : Loop(s) hk : Hook
dc : Double crochet sp : Space
sl-st : Slip stitch ch : Chain
st(s) : Stitch(es)
yo : Yarn Over
Chainless start for Double Crochet : I dislike the ch-2 / ch – 3 start, and this is what I do to start my row of dc.
Instructions using U.S terminology
Please note that I start all my rows with a ch 1, turning chain for ease.
Please check the top of this blog for easy video tutorials on all stitches used in today's pattern. For your convenience there video tutorials through the blog too
Please read through all my notes before you pick up your hook, so you know just where we're heading in our pattern.
In my patterns I work with the principle of stitch count and body measurement.
This means that you need to work the stitch count in pattern, till you get the measurement (length and/or width) that you need for your project.
For the tiny little rose, I used the chart and
inspiration photograph I found online.
The rose motif is one I have used several times before…
having made hair
tic tac clips ; or having added it to the top of a headband and of course as a
cute little button on dresses. This
time, however, there is a small tweak on this beauty that made me want to try
this out. So let’s work out what this
difference is, shall we.
PART 1 : Small Rose Motif (Ear ring)
the ear ring post and ear ring back
and the beautiful flower motifs
Using a similar pattern, I have made a pair of
ear rings, and then a pendant. The basic
pattern is the same, but as I’ve made the pendant a little larger, I’ve tweaked
it a bit.
Start with a chain
in multiples of 8 + 2. Turn.
Note : A set of 8 chain will form one rose petal,
so depending on how large or how many petals (rounds of petals) you want, work
that many multiples.
Scroll down to the bottom for another flower version.
Single Crochet : Sc : yo, insert hk into st ; yo (2 lps on hk); yo, draw through both lps. One sc made. Check out the video at
https://youtu.be/ghACqBpA-3k Double Crochet : dc : yo, insert hk into st ; yo (3 lps on hk);
[yo, draw through 2 lps] twice. One dc made.
Row 1 : sc in the 2nd ch from hk ;
ch 4, sk next ch, sc in the next ch ;
*ch 2, sk next 2 ch, dc in the next ch ;
(ch 2, dc in the same ch ) ;
rep (to) once ;
ch 2, sk next 2 ch, sc in the next ch ;
ch 4, sk next ch, sc in the
next ch* ;
rep *to* till end. Turn.
Row 2 : sl-st into the 1st ch-2 sp,
3 dc in
the same 1st ch-2 sp ;
sk next dc ;
*(3 dc in the next ch-2 sp) ;
rep (to) once ;
sk next dc ; 2 dc in the next ch-2 sp ;
sc in
the next ch-4 sp* ;
rep *to* till end.
Fasten off and leave a tail to attach.
PART 2 : Small Rose Bud Centre (Ear ring)
Start with a
magic circle and 6 sc in that circle.
Join with a sl-st to the 1st st.
Pull lightly to close.
Round 1 : (Increase round) :
2 sc in the 1st
sc and in each sc all around.
Join with a sl-st to the 1st st. (12 sc)
Rounds 2 - 3 : sc in the 1st sc and in each sc all
around.
Join with a sl-st to the 1st st. (12 sc)
Single crochet 2-together : sc 2-tog :
Insert hk into st, yo and pull up a lp (2 lps on hk) ; insert hk into next sc, yo and pull up a lp (3 lps on hk); yo and draw through all 3 lps. One sc 2-tog complete. Visit this video tutorial at https://youtu.be/whlsMemDHLc
Round 4 : (Decrease round) :
sc 2-tog over in the 1st
2 sc ;
*sc 2-tog over the next 2 sc* ;
rep *to* all around.
Join with a sl-st to the 1st st. (6 sc)
Fasten off and leave a tail to attach.
Finishing :
You now have a small circular little bud and a long wavy strip.
I am sure you know what to do with them both
and the pictures have explained it all too, but here’s the explanation anyway.
Holding the little bud in the centre, wrap the
strip around it and start attaching (from the bottom, using an embroidery needle) in circles till you reach
the end of the strip.
Attach and seal
the end of the strip neatly. Keep
checking around the front that the petals are overlapping well, and look like a
cute little button rose.
I have decided to make this a ‘press-type’ ear
ring and so I have attached this little button rose to the press type ear ring
holder. If you decide to make it a
hanging ear ring, you will need to attach your little ear ring hook onto the
top of the rose and watch it dangle and attract attention when you swing your
head
PART 3 : Large Rose Motif (Pendant)
For the pendant, as I mentioned before, it’s the
similar pattern, but as I wanted it a little larger, I’ve changed a few
stitches.
Start with a
chain in multiples of 8 + 2 .
Each set of 8 stitches will form one rose petal,
so depending on how large or how many petals (rounds of petals) you want, work
that many multiples.
Row 1 : sc in the 2nd ch from hk ;
*ch 2, sk next 2 ch, dc in the next ch ; (ch 2,
dc in the same ch ) ;
rep (to) once ; ch 2, sk next 2 ch, sc in the
next ch ;
ch 3, sk next ch, sc in the next ch* ;
rep *to* till end. Turn.
Triple Crochet : trc : wrap yarn twice around hook, insert hk into st ; yo (4 lps on hk); [yo, draw through 2 lps] three times. One trc made.
Check out the video at https://youtu.be/A0y4BbgDTbs
Row 2 : sl-st into the 1st ch-2 sp, 3 dc in
the same 1st ch-2 sp ; sk next dc ;
*(3 trc in the next ch-2 sp ; sk next dc) ;
rep (to) once ; 3 dc in the next ch-2 sp ; sc in
the next ch-3 sp ; rep (to) once* ;
rep *to* till end.
Fasten off and leave a tail to attach.
PART 4 : Large Rose Bud Centre (Pendant)
Start with a
magic circle and 6 sc in that circle.
Join with a sl-st to the 1st st. Pull lightly to close.
Round 1 : (Increase round) : 2 sc in the 1st
sc and in each sc all around.
Join with a sl-st to the 1st st. (12 sc)
Rounds 2 - 4 : sc in the 1st sc and in each sc all
around.
Join with a sl-st to the 1st st. (12 sc)
Round 5 : (Decrease round) : sc 2-tog over in the 1st
2 sc ;
*sc 2-tog over the next 2 sc* ;
rep *to* all around.
Join with a sl-st to the 1st st. (6 sc)
Fasten off and leave a tail to attach.
