SNOWFLAKE TREE ORNAMENT 3

Materials used : Today I have used ~ about a little bit of our lovely Indian Red Rose metallic cotton yarn with a 1.3 mm crochet hook

You also need fabric glue ; embroidery needle ; beads ; pearls ; a ring or bangle, especially if you decide to make this into a small sun catcher

In general : Use any yarn with a suitable hook to make these projects. The finer the yarn, the tinier the project.

For Indians : You could use Anchor , Red ros e or unbranded knitting cotton as well

International yarns : Among the international yarns I have used in this thickness, I’d suggest Aunt Lydia Cotton 10, Aunt Lydia Bamboo-Viscose 10, DMC Petra, Sullivans knitting cotton (Australia), Milford Soft, Hilaza Rustica Eclat , Alize cotton yarn and Alize bamboo yarn.

Size made : 3.25” diameter

Difficulty level : Easy to Intermediate Skill level

Abbreviations used :

ch : chain ch-sp : chain space

sp : space rep : Repeat

fsc : Foundation single crochet

dc : Double crochet

Instructions using U.S terminology

Please note that I start all my rows with a ch 1, turning chain for ease.

Please read through all my notes before you pick up your hook, so you know just where we're heading in our pattern.

In my patterns I work with the principle of stitch count and body measurement.

This means that you need to work the stitch count in pattern, till you get the measurement (length and/or width) that you need for your project.

Single Crochet : Sc : yo, insert hk into st ; yo (2 lps on hk); yo, draw through both lps. One sc made. Check out the video at https://youtu.be/ghACqBpA-3k

Start Round 1 : with a magic circle and 6 sc in that circle.

Join with a sl-st to the 1^st dc.

Round 2 : sc in the 1^st sc ;

ch 9, sc in the same sc ;

(sc in the next sc ; ch 9, sc in the same sc) ;

rep (to) all around ;

join with a sl-st to the 1^st st.

Double Crochet : dc : yo, insert hk into st ; yo (3 lps on hk);

[yo, draw through 2 lps] twice. One dc made.

Chainless start for Double Crochet : I dislike the ch-2 / ch – 3 start, and this is what I do to start my row of dc.

Round 3 : sl-st in the 1^st ch-9 sp ;

(4 dc ; ch 9, 4 dc all in the same ch-9 sp) ;

*ch 2, rep (to) once* ;

rep *to* all around ;

ch 2, and join with a sl-st to the 1^st st.

Round 4 : sl-st past the 1^st 4 dc and into the 1^st ch-9 sp ;

*(5 dc ; ch 2, 3 dc ;

ch 9, 3 dc ; ch 2, 5 dc all in the same ch-9 sp) ;

sc in the next ch-2 sp* ;

rep *to* all around and join with a sl-st to the 1^st st.

In the next round, we’ll work a 5-ch picot which is (ch 5, sl-st in the 5^th ch from hk).

How to work a picot stitch : Traditionally for a ch-3 picot, you work (ch 3, sl-st in 3rd ch from hook). For a ch-5 picot, you will do (ch 5, sl-st in 5th ch from hook).

Triple Crochet : trc : wrap yarn twice around hook, insert hk into st ; yo (4 lps on hk); [yo, draw through 2 lps] three times. One trc made.

Round 5 : sc in the 1^st 5 dc and into the 1^st ch-2 sp ,

[sc + picot + sc all in the ch-2 sp] ;

*(ch 4, 2 trc ; ch 4, sc in the ch-9 sp) ;

rep (to) 4 times in the same ch-9 sp ;

sc in the next 3 dc ;

rep [to] once in the next ch-2 sp ;

sc in the next 5 dc ; sl-st in the next sc ;

sc in the next 5 dc ;

rep [to] once in the next ch-2 sp ;

sc in the next 3 dc* ;

rep *to* all around

and join with a sl-st to the 1^st st.

Fasten off and weave in ends.
